Posts: 36 | The idea behind the game is practically historic...it will likely go down as the first real attempt at MMO racing, and other games will definitely follow.
What has been achieved is impressive, but like any early attempt, there are significant flaws.
Most importantly, the networking is simply horrendous. Since there are multiple servers working independantly, players just appear and disappear continously. There really needs to be some way of shutting off the insignificant data so the servers can work better and pings won't suffer. When I'm driving around with my friends, I don't need to know that "joe-696969" wants to race me or that he is even out there. Second, steering wheel support is broken. When I'm in the map, whether it's finding a destination or laying out a route for a race, there is no way to move the cursor up or down. There is an option to turn "On" the steering wheel support in the game, but it does not address this issue, and easily could. Basically, if "Steering Wheel" is turned on the options, and I use the D-pad to move the cursor up or down, the camera should follow the cursor. Problem solved. Right now, you can move the cursor clear off the screen to where you can't even see what you're doing with it.
I do enjoy driving around the island though, and exploring all of the roads. I like the way you have to be careful when passing other cars...just like real life. And I love touring around the island with a friend, just dorking around and checking out new places. Kudos Eden and Atari for creating such a breakthrough game!
