in answer to your first post. I sure hope so as thats what im going to be doing. I am currently on my free one month trial, and close to the end of that month i will be buying a 12month (+1 free month) trial card. I don't see what the problem with this would be???

As far as your 2nd post goes, i would say that that is NOT normal at a guess. However i have never redeemed a card myself. I would recommend double checking that you entered the right code and calling MS, or taking it back to where you got it from.
