Its universally acknowledged that Americas justice system is a joke. As is the U.K. except here sentances for major crime are pathetic.
The truth is in the U.K. the law is. as follows:
A person being attacked by another may defend themselves with as much force that is necessary to save themselves from further harm.
Whats that? WTF is that? TODAYS REAL WORLD DEFINITION? The definition of the word liberal is the same today as it was when it was first used.
Either show me a link that says otherwise or take my education and thank me for being so kind as to correct your mistake.
You remind me of King Arthur in Monty Pythons The Holy Grail running round telling everyone he is King of the Brittons. And expecting everyone to take his word for it just because he says he is!
Admitedly there are negative meanings: free from restraint. (may or may not be a good thing);licentious (which certainly isnt) but these are very much in the minority! Whats more important than your understanding of the meaning is that in the opinion of lexicographers, to be liberal is to have positive values not based on judgementalism or narrow-mindedness. Are you a Lexicographer?
I am liberal defined by THE meaning not YOUR meaning. You have no idea what my political views are all I have posted in these threads are moral imperatives so I think I'm better suited to tell you my political stance than you tell me. | there are many words today in the language that their uses do not reflect the meanings transcribed in the dictionary. That is because the dictionary is slow to add new meanings to the same words and change meanings as the language changes. Liberal USED to mean what your oxford english said it ment. When superleft leaning political parties started calling themselves liberal to try to use that meaning, it took on another meaning in the language. A word is associated with what gives it meaning. That changes over time sometimes. Just because your dictionary hasnt changed what it thinks the meaning is, doesnt mean the language hasnt changed. You britts keep trying to cling to the olde version of your language. Language is fluid, like water, not steadfast like brick and mortar. American english and brittish english are now 2 separate forms of the same language, much like spanish from spain, and spanish from mexico or spanish from cuba are all diffrent, even though they are all "spanish". Dont have the pretense to lecture me about language if you dont understand the basics of language itself and its fluid structure throughout cultures and time. My culture is not yours. If you want to argue meaning, then you are arguing against a wall, because meaning will not change here or there because you want it to, so it fits with your arguement.
