Posts: 792 | My uncle was into Computer as a hobby since the 70s. I was born 1978 and so I grew up in the 80s watching him tinkering with computers and more importantly with games. I think my very very first game experience was called Zork or Zorn, something like that, and it was text only which I thought was cool because I was into Reading alot of books at a young age.
I can recall a few other PC games from my early days like
Trolls and Tribulations
Clownomania
kings Quest <-----First RPG I played
Gunship 2000
Battletech: Crecent Hawks Inception
Wolfenstein<----- first FPS that set me onto that Genre
Battle of Britain <-----my first flight sim that hooked me on the Genre
Elder Scrolls II Morrowind
Wing Commander series
Star Trail: Realms of Arkania
Myth: the fallen lords <-----track down the developers if you're curious!
My uncle had an Atari and an Intelivision with various games that I cannot recall besides Burger Time, Dreadnaught Factor, Asteroids and Spyhunter.
My uncle then got the original NES with the robot and gyroscopes that pressed the red or blue lever to play games. I played through most of the classics. like Duck Hunt, Rygar, Kid Icarus, Zelda, etc etc etc etc
The NES was my only console gaming until after 2001. I played through all genre's of PC gaming with the exception of sports. I stuck mainly to RPGs, Shooters, Racing games, and Flight Sims. I was mixing it up BIG TIME on hundreds of Quake/Doom Servers for a long time. I got into X-wing VS, Tie Fighter online as well for a long time. I joined up with a squadron that had a website and when you registered to join them the website would randomely generate a 3 digit pilot number in the squadron and mine was 666 which was kinda cool to me as a teenager. I played Starcraft for literally thousands of hours online. I would also have to count my Quake online play time as well over 1000 hours.
The PC games were on the brink of really getting to be Mainstream and AWESOME when i moved cross country and had to leave my custom built top end circa 1999 PC behind to pay off a debt. I was busy working alot and didnt have free time then I met up with my wife in 2000 and she ended up getting me a Playstation for christmas so I cut through most of what they had to offer and then In 2003 I made the leap to the Original Xbox because of Halo and Elder Scrolls III Morrowind.
Then I had some limited access to a PS2 and played through the hot/popular titles. I ditched my original Xbox ind ecember right after the 360 launched because I had hopes of immediatly upgradng but unfortunately the cash got diverted to other uses and I was stuck waiting until Septerber about 1 year after the 360 launched before I finally got mine. Despite this being my 3rd 360due to faulty 360s that were replaced at the store or by Microsoft covered under warranty I would NEVER consider not owning a 360.
Halo CE and Morrowind made me buy the original Xbox
Oblivion made me buy my 360 also knowing Halo 3 was in development helped
