Ever since the Pats started putting up 40 per game everyone from Terry Bradshaw, Tom Jackson, Steve Young, & Jimmy Johnson have been stating that Brady is a better QB than Manning. Every sports channel I turn to all I hear it how great Brady is and how amazing the Patriots are. They are the greatest team ever! How these supposed “NFL experts” can become so blatantly biased and myopic is beyond me but the raw numbers speak volumes. Granted, Brady has won more Super Bowls but the argument isn’t over who has had the better TEAMS. The basis of this debate would be who the better Quarterback is. Obviously it is an INDIVIDUAL comparison.

Manning
CMP 3269 ATT 5092 YRDS 39164 CMP% 64.2 TDs 286 INT 142 Sack 175 Rate 94.7

Brady
CMP 2065 ATT 3293 YRDS 23689 CMP% 62.7 TDs 174 INT 80 Sack 189 Rate 91.8

As demonstrated by the numbers Manning wins hands down. But wait, Manning has two years over Brady!! Yes, this is true but the further you look into the numbers the worse off Brady appears to be. 2007 aside, who has rushed for over 1,000 yards on the Patriots? Since 2001, the Patriots first Super Bowl win, only Corey Dillon and Antowain Smith have rushed for over 1,000 yards (2001- 2004). What does this mean? Well it means the Pats couldn’t run the ball so by default they had to score on the pass which they did. The less effective the run game the more pass attempts by the Quarterback. Conversely, since 2000, the Colts have had 5 years with a 1,000 yard rusher (Edgerrin James 00, 03, 04, 05 - Addai 06). With a great run game the QB is not forced to air it out or be entirely dependent upon the pass as the Patriots have been. If Manning went without those great run years his numbers would be even higher which quite frankly, is hard to imagine. As far as the Pats gaudy offensive numbers go, anybody remember the 98 Vikings? 15-1? Yeah they lost the Falcons in the NFC championship game. I’m not saying they Pats will lose I am only saying that just because a team lights it up on offense it doesn’t necessarily translate into a Super Bowl win.
