Posts: 1 | You CANNOT use any (non-MS) USB wireless adapters on your xbox. These adapters require drivers to be loaded on the machine and you cannot install drivers on an xbox. MS has pre-installed drivers on the xbox for their wireless adapter only. This way they can get you to overpay for their over-priced wireless adapter.
You can use the original xbox1 wireless adapter, and can find it offered a bit cheaper than the xbox360 adapter.
You can also use a wireless "gaming" adapter, such as the one Linksys offers. I am using this without any problems. Yes, the gaming adapter is actually a 'bridge" router (you plug one end of an ethernet cable into the game adapter, and the other end into the xbox's ethernet port.) The only downside is the gaming adapter requires a power outlet, whereas the MS wireless adapter does not.
As I mentioned, the wireless gaming adapters are actually wireless access points configured as a bridge, so if you have the know-how you can actually get a hold of any access point and configure as a bridge. Wireless access points can be found for ~$50. Wireless gaming adapters can be found for $60-90. Obviously much cheaper than the MS rip off of $100! |
