So when you are plugged in, it works fine but when you detach to go wireless it shuts off after 10 mins? that sounds alot like what was happening with my Play & Charge kit.. I used rechargable camera batteries for a long time but decided to pick up a microsoft play n charge kit.
Sadly the battery in the kit would only hold a charge for about 15 minutes before it would shut down and require me to plug back in... I returned it to the store for a refund and went back to batteries.

Later I was given a Nyco battery pack/charger set as a gift and they work just fine, the battery pack lasts about 20-30 hours and there are 2 batteries on the charger so it's quick to swap out the pack.
