I think Epic has heard allot of people complain about the story line in the Single Player mode. Granted, it wasn't that good.
However, the focus of this game is its online play, and why do we need story again for that? Really, lets be serious here.

Personally I think the story will be better for the single player mode, but honestly, after we've played thru it, we will all be in Online mode for many many months to come.

Also, there is a tech demo of the unreal engine on IGN as well, showing marcus and blowing something up I've heard. I'll have to check it out after work tonight.
