Yes, Component looks better than Composite by quite some margin. With component, the video is separated into 3 RCA interconnects (R, G and B) which has a lot more bandwidth than Composite and therefore you get much better definition and colour vibrancy.

Component is the next best thing to moving up to HD. In terms of quality of interconnect, it goes:

HDMI/DVI = VGA ~= Component > S-video > Composite > RF/Coaxial
