sweet! hd dvd playah! i got one. yeah, it'll upconvert to whatever you have your 360 display output set too and whatever your tv can handle. i also have a hdmi on my elite, but my tv is only a 1080i, and it upconverts regular dvd's to that. i use the dvd player rather then the game tray, cause i don't want to wear out my 360 disc tray (might not happen, but i got the hd dvd playah, so i better use it).

also, you can get some sweet deals on hd dvds off of amazon. some are still expensive for some unknown reason, but i got a bunch between 5 and 10 bucks.
