With a high def monitor the line are more crisp, the colours are brighter and the next gen lighting effects pop off the screen. Trust me I had a HDTV and was running standard digital cable and the picture was so-so and I didnt understand the fuss about HDTV then I got the 360 and downloaded the Lion, the witch and the warddrope trailer and WOW what a difference in picture quatility over standard TV. now DVDs look like VHS. Anyways if you havent used a HDTV then a 360 on a standard TV will look excellent. I tried it to see if the picture quality was good or not and even on a standard TV the 360 really shines especially from the anti-alaising that smooths out the detail which plagued all past gen systems. Dont let the type of TV you own stop you from buying a 360 it looks beautiful on whatever TV you own. Cant say this about PS3 since you will need a HDMI to view the movies which make the overpriced blu-ray in the ps3 useless unless you own a HDMI- HDTV
