Posts: 141 | Coming from a person who studies the subject, the Confederate Army was just as capable as the Union's. The problem was manpower and the North produced 90% of the nations industrial capacity. The North had 11 times as many ships and boats as the the South. The North produced 17 times as much textile goods, 24 times as many trains and 32 times as many fire arms. Lastly and most importantly the North's food production was 2 to 1 compared to the South's production.
The men fighting on both sides were the same. The Confederates were fighting a war they could never win because of the Union's sheer dominance in industry but that does not mean the men of the Confederacy were not capable of being a force. They did drag the war on for 4 years after all.
