Looks like “emergence day” could be coming in October. Did the GOW site jump the gun and accidentally reveal the launch date? The same date that matches the announced launch dates that have been listed on sites like EBgames.com?.. Or is this really just even more fuel for the hype?. i don’t know. But we all know we want this to be the real date… but im not believing anything yet.. not till it comes from MS them selves. We’ve all seen too many dates being pushed back and back that we know not to take things like this too seriously…well most of us…

As early as the beginning of this week, a check of the Gears of War page on Xbox.com offered only a vague "Q4 2006" release date, while retailer EBgames.com has been listing the game’s release as October 2. Though there hasn’t been an official announcement from Microsoft of when “Emergence Day” intersects our standard calendar, it’s interesting to note that Xbox.com's GoW page now (as of 4pm PT today) also lists an October 2, uh, emergence.

A Microsoft spokesperson, when asked about the date listing on Xbox.com, reiterated that “there’s no official date set yet,” but having a specific date appear on the game publisher’s official page—and having that date match a major retailer’s listed release date—makes it hard to believe that isn't when the game is slated to ship. If indeed that’s the case, it’s quite possible we’re on the verge of Microsoft’s official announcement and someone at Xbox.com jumped the gun by posting it early.


Given how things like this have gone before, it’s certainly possible that October 2 won’t be the final date…or that someone messed up by posting an incorrect date online, in which case you may soon see that GoW page change back to something vague again.
