Posts: 1,098 | I didn't know the P$3 couldn't play custom soundtracks in games... Didn't they tout that as a feature several months ago?

Posts: 1,982 | I hate the NY Times, as I am a conservative, but for once they have made me happy. I loved this article. This article just reinforces my feelings to NOT get a PS3. Maybe I'll get one a year or something when a couple good games are on it that arent on the 360, but that is even a big if.
Sony you've got a problem... the Xbox 360 is better |

Posts: 204 | Yeah... Read that yesterday also...
A lot of missing features in this so-called "future-proof" console... It really looks like the thing is half-baked...
M$ had some faulty systems on launch, but at least they made me enthusiast about everything the system and Live provided from the get-go...
You can expect patch after patch coming from Sony to get the thing up and going...Now can they supply them quickly enough?
BTW Not being able to listen to custom tracks while playing is a major let down on such hardware.

Posts: 1,143 | Sony seems dead in the water. Shame, as consumers we would have benefit from 2 large companies competing for our loyalty!

Posts: 675 | lol.. u guys talk as if the PS3 is dead.. trust me its far from it.. why cuz i meet people every day who are planning on getting a PS3.. and i ask them the usual question like what games are u really looking forward to, and what’s one fetcher they really love about the system.. and they know (nothing) about the system.. not even joking! ..not even the games that are coming out for it.. I mean talk about ignorance is bliss.. I got nothing against people who want a PS3 cuz I got lots of friends who want one and will end up getting one. But to know nothing about the system and just buying it cuz u have a PS2.. That’s why Sony will live for years to come. Cuz they have so many ignorant consumers. I'll say this. Sony has a larger % of ignorant consumers then MS not saying that MS has none cuz that can't be farther from the truth. Why cuz Sony has been in the market much longer and has a MUCH bigger install base. When a sony consumer is thinking about changing to get a 360 they end up looking for into it and reading up on the system itself.. and for others its just much easer to stay with a system they had for years and just go with the same company for years and years |

It's off to a much worse start than the 360. |

see i know the PS3 had a bad launch and all but i know that most PS2 owner will end up sticking with the Sony brand. so all in all i think Sony is still in this. and that’s a good thing. cuz we don't want just one console out there. Look at the PS2 after the xbox came out their games ended up getting much better just cuz Sony now had a real competitor. With out that developers wouldn’t have that drive if it wasn’t for them competing for your money.. In a sense |

Posts: 62 | Give it some time. Its honestly too early to compare both the PS3 and Xbox 360 to each other. But the PS3 isn't really doing well. I'd trade that in for a lifetime supply of tacos at Taco Bell........ |

Posts: 1,875 | The article is spot-on, meaning, the author has some very valid points of why people should avoid the PS3 at the moment. It says a lot (to me) about a company that launches 6 months after the original launch date [remember SPring `05?], and the product still feels like it is unfinished.
Obviously the Wii had a better launch, it was easier for them to secure the parts which date circa 2001... Old tech, cheap and familiar. Sony didn't have that luxury, also, there are over 2000 parts going into the PS3, which is about 700 more than the 360, so they have more manufacturing issues than the Wii/360 as well.
But, despite all that, I do not think Sony's hegemony will ever overcome the 360/Wii combo now. Sorry, the PS2 only started selling like hot-cakes after the price dropped below $200. It took about 2 years for it to reach that number.
Let's look at it from this angle: it took 5 years for the PS2 to go from $300 to $129, or 44% of it's original price. If the PS3 followed the same route, then in 5 years, the PS3 will be $240. I know we talk about casual gamers being the main-stay for the PS franchise, but at what price do the casual gamers kick-in?
The PS3 just lost 3 more exclusives this week: Armored Core 4, Fatal Inertia and some other that escapes me at the moment. With the weak install base, there is less drive for developers to stick with a certain console (in this case, the PS3). I see them losing more exclusives, many more, in the short future.
I know competition is important for this industry, but the reality is that Sony screwed the pooch with this latest installment. And it'll be a while before the PS3 is a noteworthy purchase. I do not think it'll ever garner the momentum needed to be #1, there are too many variables against it. |
