Apple System

I know it's probably been discussed but what would you guys think if apple started in the run of the console wars? Do you think they would have an approach more like the Wii's or the 360 and PS3? What kind of integration do you think it would have with the Mac's and Ipods? I don't see why they wouldn't since apple is "the" brand to have to look cool.

There's no room for 4 consoles in the market. There's barely room for 3.

Ah, but what if one console fails miserably this generation? What if (for arguments sake) Sony goes bankrupt and is forced to sell the Playstation name brand? Then I could totally see Apple coming in and making a positive difference.

Although I would agree that 4 consoles saturates the market.

I agree. If one of the current console makers (MS, Nintendo, Sony) drop out of the console market, then that could pave the way for Apple to get in (if they are interested).

Interesting question. Let's just say for arguments sake that Apple does decide to create a console. Being an apple and Windows user myself, I am aware of the pros and cons of Apple. Until the recent Intel migration into the Apple system, Apple had superior hardware as far as the processors and in house hardware goes. The negative of this though, is that Apple computers were alot more expensive than their Windows counterparts.

Now, Apple is better at programs (atleast before the intel migration) such as Photoshop, Flash, Mia, and the list can go on. Basically Apple computers were/possibly still are better at Animation, Video, and Sound production. I used to work at a radio station, and the entire studio was using Apple computers.

Now I am not trying to sound like an Apple fan boy, so please continue to hear me out. Windows machines hold the majority of the market as far as users go. If you go into any business most likely see Windows machines. Windows machines have more software than Apple. There are more peripherals that connect to Windows machines than Apple machines. Windows machines are alot easier on your wallet than Apple machines are.
Not to mention that Windows machines get many more games than Apple machines do.

How does this effect a possible Apple console?

Apple's console would most likely be as expensive as the PS3 is, due to Apple's track record. Their console would most likely play games just as smooth, with graphics that are just as good as the 360 and PS3, BUT Apple does not have half of the experience in game development as Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo does so how do we know their games would be any good? The games are what really make the console right? We also have to take in account the third party developers. Third party developers will most likely be wary of Apple's console, due to the fact that they do not have any experience in consoles, thus making it harder for Apple's console to succeed.

Now let's look at the gamers point of view. I use an Apple computer at home. I absolutely LOVE my Apple computer. I used to build Windows computers, etc. but personally I am an Apple user for life. Now, I am also a gamer. Just because I love my Apple computer does that mean I would go out and buy an Apple console? Nope. I would be afraid to possibly waste my money on a system that might possibly tank within 2 years.

I don't have the definate answer if Apple is creating a console or if they have even fathomed the idea, but if they did, there is a very high chance it would fail.

What if salad cream could be used as a recreational drug?

What if squirrels could talk?

What if Sam Beckett did a Quantum Leap into Jesus just before he was crucified? Would he try and stop it? Or would Ziggy say theres a 77.8% probability that the world would descend into hell if jesus doesnt die for our sins? Huh? What then? huh?

Maybe I'm missing the point of this thread but Apple have never been interested in gaming and nothing I have seen or heard would lead me to belive they ever will.

I don't know i just think since apple is so big right now then why not at least think about it. But i was asking what if because i wanted to see people's views of what if?

I agree with Wingman and gridstone, hypothtically speaking. one of the big 3 would have to fall by the way side. But Apple would be very hesitant after watching the damage such a project could do if they didnt get it right - a la Sega Saturn, Panasonic VDO, and Jaguar.

I think Apple are very good at what they do, and will probably stick to it.

Don't even go there. Apple makes a nice computer but a console is going too far! They don't even have many games out for mac, they have little experience in gaming. Sony does cause they've have 3 consoles, nintendo does because they have experense since the early 90's. Even though microsoft started off fresh, they have PC games they've been makes since for ever!

i heavily doubt that any onf the 3 systems are going to fail, so the chances of a new one entering the market is slim
