Posts: 331  |  Sony Playstation 3 Thread For those worried about Playstation 3 Backwards Compatibility you can rest at ease you see The Playstation 3 is comming with an internet browser which means that new applications, utilites etc can be made and availible for download on your PS3 by Playstation 3 Browser compatible websites that can be made by some clever people out there. This is what Sony said about p********** Emulation on the Pc they said it could not be done. It happend since someone wrote the program to do it years back and the pc did not have any access to certain chips that the p********** One had. Give it time folks someone will work out how to program an emulator and compensate for the loss of PS2 hardware thus get the PS3's hardware to load PS2 games on it. In fact id dare say someone will be doing reverse enginering when the PS3 hits and will soon teach the PS3 how to boot PS2 games using its next gen hardware. I know Sony are already doing this but for your old games that wont play the option of downloading and installing a fully working independant secondary emulator would solve that little problem. There are people out there quite capable of doing this , look at the guy who made bleem for example Its like playing mega drive games on the PS2 they needed hardware only found on the mega drive yet they have got the PS2 to play them. Once the PS3s internet browser gets working and new updates are made this will quickly become a reality and will ensure endless possibilities. Now not to be a sony fanboy by all acounts but im quite impressed with its features. Internet acess multimedia functionality plus games like Tekken 6 MGS4 Gran Turismo Vision whos going to say no. Have a look at the video showing what the machine has built into it. Quite worth while watching. Granted they are doing a software emulation compatibility, but they even said it will be just like the 360's.. which is spotty at best when it comes to xbox games. then again, i dont know why systems are backwards compatible to begin with.. why do you buy a NEW system just to play OLD games.. i sold off everything xbox the week before i got my launch 360 (so i could still get good prices for it) and never looked back. why is backwards compatability even a real issue?? i just get pissed at a policy of "take out functionality, but make em pay more for it!!" crap.. and i dont even live in EU, nor do i want a PS3.. i feel for all you europeans who have to put up with sony's latest practices. funnier yet.. with the new "Zephyr" release, im sure thats about the same time they will drop prices on the 360, even if its just make the current premium, core priced, drop the core, and make the new 360 premium priced. I am assuming however that ms will drop the price a few bux on top since the new 360 will be made of the smaller NM die chip. so you could be seing a price difference of up to 300 between the 360 and the PS3.. especially in europe. you can buy an HDDVD addon and a few games or movies with that price difference, or just a heck of alot of games!!! Why would you even want a PS3 then besides being a cheap bluray player??? If you can wait 3 or 4 yrs, bluray/HDDVD will probably both have sub $200 players anyways... if not before then. Who cares what hardware it has.. does 99% of the people have the capability to play lossless audio??? probably not.. most people dont even have HDTV's. Not like the PS3 scales games right anyways.. or did they ever fix that.. MAJOR bug? You really want 2-4 exclusive games to justify 200-300 more in price.. plus the games on top!??! i love games, but are they THAT important to you?? sooner or later you will probably be able to rent 360's and PS3's from blockbuster anyways.. just wait and rent the console and games for a week, save ya 600++ smackers. some people i just dont understand.

Posts: 193 | I'm getting PS3 soon, very soon. It's an excellent machine, no matter what Xbots say!  I have an Xbox 360 and it's great, but I cannot deny the PS3 is simply a great console too. As well as the Wii.

Posts: 2,266 | a bit off the subject, but, i saw a hd/bluray player today at best buy. it was 1200 bucks, but, like remix said, that should be dropping pretty quick. that was the fear of this media war, hd vs bluray, on which player to buy, now consumers don't have to worry (oh, i'm sure there will be some issues). Like i said, wait for the new, slimmer, ps3.

Posts: 3,216  | Remix, the price hasn't been hiked up over here, it's the same as it was when they announced the prices at E3 2006. We pay alot more for a 360 than you yanks so do try and make Sony look bad for something everyone's doing (the Wii is $300 here aswell). We pay around $600 for the Premium 360 in the UK, whilst you pay $400. We pay $800 for the 60Gb PS3 whilst you pay $600. It works out the same  Oh and Gaz, use the edit button in future. I'm gonna get one and if its trash then its trash and I will be honest when I post my opinions on the PS3. Im taking a risk with my cash but meh you only live once. As for backward compatibility, as Remix pointed out why buy a next gen console to play last gen games? I too got rid of my xbox and games. I cant see the attraction of last gen now. I kept KOTOR: II but it looks awful.

Posts: 1,054 | I think that the PS3 is really good. It's a great deal. Where else can you find a blu-ray player for $600? Problems are: I don't think the Blu-ray format will fair as well as some might hope. I think that HDDVD is a better format and will win this little war. Out of all of the features it has, for some reason it left out IR. Why? The interface is pretty bleh. Some of the built in features such as the web browser need work. Not much of a selection of games yet, though I'm sure that'll change.

GT5 is lookin so good, they keep using 360 pics of PGR3... hmm... well, whatever, thats my 2 cents

Posts: 841 | I think the whole thing is a bit to early to even compare. Each has its good and bad, but both can be enjoyed. For me it is not a question of what one is better now, but a year from now. And we just don't have enough info to make that prediction yet. So for now I have both, I enjoy both. But most of all I am excited to see what each one does over the next year and beyond.

Posts: 784  | ^^ as above. For me right now the 360 wins hands down. Thats just my personal opinion though based on using both of them. I have a 360 and think live is great, and the games i have i totally enjoy. The games i have played on ps3 are good also, great graphics, great for multiplayer. However the times i have tried to go online have been awful, just didnt seem to work as well as it should at this stage, maybe that was just bad luck though. The other gripe about the PS3 is that the games i did play on it had that "rushed for next gen" feel about them, much like the 360 went through. Eg. the NHL game i played had no commentary, and limited game modes compared to the 360 version. Again this will improve over time of course. The PS3 is new though, and the number of titles available kind of support that. But hey give the ps3 time and im sure it will be good. At this point in time though i cant see the justification in paying more money to get a ps3, apart from getting ready for the possibility that it will turn into a better console. About the looks thing, i prefer the 360 myself in this department also, but again thats just personal preference.
