Default Is the PS3 worth it?

"Oh please!, not another PS3 thread about whether to buy one!" I hear to you say, well yeah it is and I apologise but hear(or read) me out. Hopefully I will be getting a job soon, and with that I am considering saving up and buying a PS3 when it is released in a couple of weeks. But I really do need to know, becuase 500 pound really is a lot of money to spend on a console, should I get one.
*What are the games like, the reason that I still play my PS2 is becuase it has some really great game such as Final Fantasy, MGS and Devil May Cry. I have seen trailers for all of this and they look astounding. Do you think there will be a reasonably not so much large, but varied catalogue of games availiable for the system, not now but mid - late 07 when I will most likely get one. On top off that, are they any good games on the system, I like all sorts but my fave ones a Shooters and RPGS, with the latter option almost non existant on the 360.

*What is online like, this is a big part of my gaming life so I want it to be good, I understand that it will not be as good as live yet as Sony doesn't have as much experience but does online work? is it buggy, are there a lot of people online at once and what not.

* How long until PS4, I hear like 10 years but the speed that technolgy evolves I cannot see it being that long, I dont want to spend loads only to have to buy a new console 1 or 2 years down the line.

* Is it worth it without HDTV, might get a HDTV soon, I might not. Is the system just flashy graphics or is there some meat to the console and the games themselves, I am only using a SDTV at the moment.

I need to take all of these in to accound before considering it, and if you are a 360 fan boy/girl who has not played one please dont post things like "OMG!11!, the PS3 is teh suxors" You dont know that and it is not constuctive. If you own/have played one give an honest opinion, be it good or bad, and please say if you think I should get one.

Cheers guys and gals

EDIT: Also do you think I should get rid of my 360 to help pay for it(I really dont want to) or wait for games like Halo 3 and other 'big' 360 exclusives?

Well I have one and I do enjoy it. But from your list there it might be worth waiting a bit on. Not that I don't think it is a great system. But for what it is right now, I don't think you would enjoy it. There are not a lot of games, but this will change. Resistance, MotoStorm, and VF5 are good. Beyond that there is not a lot, IMO. If you compare Live to the PS3 online service it kind of sucks. Works ok, but a lot of games don't support online right now. But again, this is changing by the day. As for the non-HDTV stuff I can't really help. I have only used mine on a HDTV. But considering it is a blu-ray DVD player I would have to say HDTV would be better. But is probably not required (much like the 360).

Last I would recommend you don't get rid of your 360. Right now and probably for the next while (possibly forever) it is by far the more put together system. Games, live, etc. Just can't be beat.

Again, I think the PS3 is a great system. But it has just launched and it has some growing pains that they need to sort out. If you have the cash I say go for it. If it is going to be tight, wait a while as I don't think you will be missing out on anything for the next few months.

Good luck~

Im not going to read all of that. But to the Is It Worth It Question? I think absolutely. I have all 3 consoles, and it is just starting to come into its own. I got my 60gb for 500 and do not regret it at all. There are good games coming, plus HOME and Im a movie nut, so the blu ray player goes well next to my 360s HD Dvd add on!

My brother just got his PS3, and im not that impressed. I know that it will get better, every machine has average launch titles.

Tennis-PS2 could handle the graphics.
Resistance-Nowhere near as good as R6V
Dirt racing game (forget it's name) was pretty cool.

After all the hype (at least for now) it didn't match my own expectations. We'll see...........
