PS3's starting to drop like flies?

Obviously - there's no official comments yet, but it would appear that PS3's self-proclaimed <1% failure rate only applies to units under warranty.

I have begun to hear stories, public and private, of PS3 machines doing all sorts of weird and wonderful things other than working properly.

This youtube video seems to highlight one of the most common problems I've heard - and unlike M$, Sony has no intention of fixing it for free.

over the past couple of days mine won't connect to PSN and also the thing was loud as **** yesterday for the first time. not as loud as my 360 of course but it was damn close, usually it's silent

Firstly youtube and rabbits 'hearings' are not ****ing fact you retards, secondly alex thats just the fans on overdrive with gta my ps3 is louder with it aswell but still very quiet, thirdly someone taking sides with ms when it comes to consoles failing is laughable and fanboyism at its best

There's been a few reports of BD drive problems but they are no where near the levels of RROD or Disk-read-error on the PS2. Calm down folks, no calamity here.

i hope playstation sort it for you lot, i no xbox has problem but touch wood not for me, and i always got the 3 year warrnty to fall back on, makes you think back to the nintendo& sega master system, jeez i still got one and it works like a charm , these new age gadgets only made to last as long as the warrnty

My first PS3 lasted 3 hours (one extended game session with Uncharted) before the damn BD drive gave out. No problems with the 2nd one, but that is to be expected considering its powered down 99.9% of the time.

I think the point is simple here.

When the PS3's are actually used for games,

then you'll actually start to use the components in the PS3 and then you'll start to be able to compare fairly.

GTA4 is the first game really to get people to turn on their PS3's for a game related purpose

Anyway, I jusdge a console company by its ability to look after its customers and fix problems. MS has acknoweldged a problem, repairs it for free and extends the warranty. That too me is the right thing to do.

Anyway, despite the sheer amount of RROD out there, Xbox 360 is still the best console, largest online community over 12 million members, and we all still love 360.

i have been keeping my eye on the ps3 for a while now. they are still spendy, but i am coveting the blu ray on it more then anything else. there are several games i would like for it, like resistance or rachet and clank, but i don't know if it's worth it yet.

For now I still want a 360, but if the PS3 started getting some kickbutt eve-esque MMOs, it might jump into second place. About the time that might happen, 2 years from now, I'll be eyeing BD too anyway.
