Posts: 51 | Revo Specs, Disc Capacity And Price (it's Cheap!) Revolution will build on GameCube's configuration of 24MBs 1T-SRAM and 16MBs D-RAM (40MBs) by adding an addition 64MBs of 1T-SRAM. The result is a supply of memory in Revolution that totals 104MBs. That number does not consider either the 512MBs of allegedly accessible (but hardly ideal) Flash RAM or the Hollywood GPU's on-board memory, said to be 3MBs by sources. Revolution's Broadway CPU, developed by IBM, is an extension of the Gekko CPU in GameCube, according to official Nintendo documentation passed to us by software houses. The Hollywood GPU, meanwhile, is believed to be an extension of the Flipper GPU in GameCube. Since developers have not gone hands-on with the GPU, they can only go on Nintendo documentation, which is limited. Exact clock rates were not disclosed, but one development source we spoke to had this to say of the Revolution CPU and GPU: "Basically, take a GameCube, double the clock rate of the CPU and GPU and you're done."
It's a gamble for Nintendo, for them, it's not about horsepower, it's about innovation and gameplay.
Recent rumors suggesting that the discs can hold 12GBs of data are false. In fact, Revolution discs can store 4.7GBs of data on a single layer or 8.5GBs when double-layered on a single-side. This is a massive jump from the 1.5GB capacity of GameCube discs and more than enough storage capacity for any non-high-definition game. Readers discouraged by Revolution's seeming lack of horsepower when compared to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 should remember that Nintendo is not interested in competing in the high-definition gaming arena, and as a standard-definition console, Revolution is more than capable. Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remains one of the most gorgeous games this generation and it ran on GameCube, a console at least half as powerful according to developer reports.
Software houses also waxed on the immediate advantage to Nintendo's approach with Revolution, which is, of course, system price. Every developer was in agreement that Revolution should launch with a price tag of $149 or lower! Some speculated that based on the tech, a $99 price point would not be out of the question!

Posts: 1,875 | Uhm, I know Nintendo has been stating that they are not in the same console war as the other two, but really, they're putting in very outdated hardware. Yes, I am fully aware that "its about the games", but come on, 4 years from now, PCs will probably be running on 2gigs of RAM @ 6Ghz (pulling these out my rear, no need to flame me), the 360 and PS3 will look outdated, and the Rev. will look like the NES compared to the them all. The controller is innovative, and I see potential with it, however, they are putting out a product with a shorter shelf life with that hardware, IMO.
I know my roots are based on Nintendo, but I think they scaled it back too much. Sure, it'll be cheap- rightfully so, but I sincerely hope this doesn't hurt them in the long run. Granted, these are not confirmed hardware specs either. I'm just worried, really. |

Posts: 364 | A $99 dollar price point would be pretty unheard of in these 300-400 days of the gaming console...that alone would spark peoples interest. I happened to be thinking of the exact subject at work today, with basically souped up common technology under the hood of it but a interesting controller and ofcourse the Nintendo namesake. I currently have no desire to own anything other then the 360...but if it does come in at or near $99, and atleast a glimmer or two of good games...I may reconsider.

Posts: 299 | I'd be happy with a $200 price point. That's my ideal price.
At the end of the day, lets see the tech demos before commenting. Specifications on paper don't really matter. |

Posts: 1,440 | Im know ill be getting a Revo for sure, just the point of being able to download and play the classics would be well worth it. A $200 or lower price tag would be great, if the technology mentioned above is basically all it will have I would seriously doubt I would pay anymore for it. Lets jus wait and see what happens.

Posts: 1,875 | Considering the hardware going into the Rev, $100 seems very feasible. Sure, I have no idea the cost the "Broadway" chip, but since it is not in the same genre as the other two console processors, I would speculate it is cheaper. Lets face it though, Nintendo wants to broaden the gaming horizon for people, and launching at $100 does all that even if the controller was a non-issue. If they launch at $100, my thoughts are; "brilliant".
P.S. Nice sig, korphearon. |

I agree, I thought that people might not take it seriously, but really Nintendo fans will buy it, families will buy it for kids (this won't help the kiddie image), Hardcore gamers will be inclined to buy it as it's so cheap, PS3 and Xbox 360 fans who think "I this the control is interesting, but the graphics aren't good enough" might be more inclined to buy it aswell due to it being easily offordable. This is how I felt about the DS and PSP; the PSP was expensive but is amazing, I can play, listen to music and watch a movie, but the DS is amazing in such a different way; it's quick, innovative and, in my opion way more fun!

Posts: 802 | I would defiidently get a Revo if it sells for $100 heck I would get it if it sold for $200. Not sure if I would pay any more then that though. I guess we just have to wait and see what kind of games they come up with and that will be my deciding factor.
