How many controllers?

How many controllers does the XBox 360 simultaneously support? I was assuming four but then I heard the PS3 supports seven so maybe the XBox 360 supports more than four?

As far as I'm aware it's only four like the Xbox, but I could be wrong.

Xbox 360 has been said to hold 4 Wireless controllers.
What gets me is, Microsoft have said there will be a wired controller that makes use of the USB ports. As there are three USB ports, will this mean 7 controllers in total?
