Is 278.4 GB/s of bandwidth really necessary?

Well the fact that more system bandwidth= no bottlenecks, Should be enough, But if that doesn’t quench your thirst for knowledge, young grass hoper. Then having extra bandwidth will also prepare u for what’s to come.

: For example
When they made the games for the PS1, some of the games in the systems final year had to be compressed, not dist compression, but system. They compressed the incoming data to be able to run the games properly, and flow through the system smoothly, by using complex mathematical equations. The designers of the PS1 never anticipated that the games of that area would need that much bandwidth

: So
What I’m trying to say is, the xbox360 looks like it has ample system bandwidth, if not too much. Well good, let’s keep it that way. But u never know. Maybe in six years they’ll need to compress the games for the x360 too.

It’s a safety precaution, they wont to be ready for anything that comes their way, even when the system is at the end of its life cycle.

They can’t just tell every one to bring there x360 for up grades. This is the big reason why people buy these systems in the fist plays; they don’t won’t the hassle of having to upgrading every six months, just too keep up with the new technology.

: Why not just compress?
Well I think that this generation, there is just too much data running through the systems at any given time. The old systems had megabits to deal with. We are dealing with GB/s. that means multiple DVDs a second Threw the systems bandwidth at any time. If the DVD is single-layer design and up to 8.5GB, that means that the x360 can run 32.8 DVD each second. 32.8. WOW that’s a s**** lode of movies, very fast.

One small snag here, and there goes 2 GB/s there, and one small snag there and there goes another 3 GB/s here. U see how this all adds up.

Compressing 32.8 DVDs a SECOND, Come on! U can’t expect to compress that much data, and not have some thing go wrong once in a wile. In the next generation, that once in a wile is unacceptable.

I hope this answers all your questions about why are 278.4 GB/s really necessary.

Man u again, I’m just surprised.

Yeah well I typed this out after some one wonted to know why that much bandwidth is necessary.

So I made a new thread.

I didn’t even finish it, before u read it. Again just like the last one.

Well like the last one, I just finished it after 2:30 am. So like the last time I’m very tired

But there's one difference from the last time

U don’t need to tell me to go to bed this time. :top: Hope we meet again like this

i totally agree.

the important thing to remember is that sony will make its dev's compress the data probably for the 1st gen games. after that, the technology may be so advanced that they'll need to come out with a new version of the ps3.
