Welcome Alexander, yes you need some sort of media if you buy a hdd you will be able to play your xbox game library, on the other hand if you buy a 64 mb mem card you will only be able to save games and game files

hdd 20gb= 100 dlls
64 mb mem card=60 dlls

i would just get the premium but if u had to get the core then the memory card is for u but wait with a 100 dollars u can get this wonderfull 20 gig hard drive

Welcome alex. It dosen't matter if your getting the core get a memory card or a hard drive. If you want a hard drive then just buy the premium for $100 more (thats how much the hard drive costs alone.)
