View Full Version : Does the Revolution Have a Chance

We all know that Nintendo has fallen somewhat from the glory days of the NES, and to a lesser extent the Super Nintendo...
The GameCube did badly.
We all know they have the game catalogue, and a very loyal base of hardcore fans, but do you think that is still enough to go another round in the next gen console battle?
Do they really have a chance? Or is that not even one of their goals? Are they happy in 3rd place?

I think Nintendo are happy just floating along at their own pace, but it isnt good enough.
They want to win this console war, hence them trying to Revolutionise gaming. But Innovation isnt always the way forward, and thisd could be a big flaw for them. Especially if the rumour of a 2007 release is true...

Hard to say at the moment as they are on a very thin line.#
Which could go either way.
The Nintnedo home brew games seem to be to far few between.
More 3rd party suport is a must.
Hard to belive that the Xbox was behind the GC at one point but has now surpassed the GC now by a big number.
Lot of shops not selling GC or their games.
More GC being traded in than being sold.
Nintnedo need to pull their finger out.
As much as I am a gamer i am realy unhappy with the way nintnedo have gone this generation and I can't see the revolution doing much better unles they pull their socks up and get on with getting more games on their system and more advertising.

Well said that Maximo. Last year Nintendo had very few releases worth buying, a major mistake on their side.

U don’t need to be in 1st plays to make money every one know that already. So of cores Nintendo has a change, their cheap product make more money every time their hardware is bought, then when an x360 is bought. It costs more for MS to make an x360 then when they sell one, but that’s how it’s always bin, they get the money and interest in the end by other means

Yeah well put. I am sure they have something more to offer, but for some unknown reason keep "focusing" on the wrong stuff
I hope they still have a chance, Im one of the hard core fans myself though - so I would say that. I would be very very sad if the day came when I knew there would never be another Zelda game to keep me up all night.
I think they are most likely happy enough in 3rd place, as long as they do not fall toooo far behind. They are certainly still making a profit.
I would disagree with the statement "innovation is not always the way forward" though - I mean without innovation nothing would move at all. It just so happens that Nintendo sometimes seem to pick the wrong innovations to follow (connectivity between hand held and console) and ignore the good ones (On line gaming!)

It is still too early to count Nintendo out. But, as you have so aptly put, Nintendo has made some bad business decisions which have helped maintain them in 3rd place. Even if Nintendo falls and does not recover, they can license out their game titles, so you shouldn't worry about it too much, as I am sure $ony and M$ wouldn't mind shelling out $$ for those exclusive Nintendo titles.

I have no idea! there system seems ok. But with the 360 and the PS3 im not shure. Plus there piece of sh!t controller might ruin it for nintendo

and you know that because you've seen it and actually played games with it?
Until we actually get to see the controller and what it's function and capabilities are, we have nothing to make a judgement on.

how can i put this best? no.
revolution doesn't have a chance to capture #1 in the market. they have little/no 3rd party support. no real new innovative games. no HD support, no clue what the system hardware s going to be. there's no chance.
they have what? 18% of the market share and a tarnished rep.
sorry nintendo, you'll still make money, probably more than sony, but you won't be #1 this next gen.

Sounds like Sony as well this time round with the things they have dropped from the ps3 since pre-e3 confrence

the revolution is in with a chance this time. Free online gaming through wi-fi, the entire nintendo back catalogue free for downloading, backwards compatibility with the gamecube. They're aiming for a niche market. Apart from what it looks like we know so very little about the revolution. It's could be the surprise package and even beat sony's ps3 into second place.

They aren't. But I can't see them being too expensive.
The Revolution could actually be in with a chance. Nintendo must have learned from their mistakes wth the Gamecube (just look at the DS - they have done more advertising for the DS than they have done with the Gamecube).

if even you were to only pay £3 or $5 per DL wouldn't be bad at all. you would be able to get your favourite nintendo games like golden eye etc.

true but they did not say either way as they have basicly said naff all about the revolution ATM anyway.
Yeah the cloak and dagger aproach is getting dull, but I am hoping it will be worth waiting for. We know the online experience is going to be free, I cant see the DLs being free as well, that would just be too sweet.
The DS has done pretty well, if they can get 2nd place in the market with the Revolution I think I would be impressed. We will just have to wait and see.

all i have to say is, last week i tried to play on my n64. i just couldn't. it looked sooo crappy and the gameplay was so, not really there. i tried mario kart, goldeneye, frickin starfox, all my games and they just didn't live up to it.
i think we all love those games because we had such a good time when they were the standard, when they were new. but i think to go back in generation is hard, because you have to dumb the game down so much lower than what you're used to.
