5 years, but Microsoft said that the 360 will last to 7 to 10 years.

5 years, but Microsoft said that the 360 will last to 7 to 10 years.

where did you read that? first I've heard of it and I dont see how they can stretch it that long. Within 5 years the technology will be as always more advanced and it'll make the 360 look pretty weak at that time. They'll have to come up with something stronger. 7-10 years just sounds way too far a stretch from a tech world perspective. I mean sure it'll be around that long but they'll have to have something new before 7-10 years passes

Well, Ken K. stated the PS3 was good for 10 years, but you're right, I do not remember that being said for the Xbox 360. I would expect the industry to revamp itself around 2010.

4 to 5 yrs max. At that point just following Mores Law the current hw will be out dated. They wont want to fall too far behind pc games or they might loose market share.

As fast as graphic cards advance and cell technology advances the consoles
will have to be stellar in the next gen.To sum up as fast as technology advances so will consoles,I predict between 3 and 5 yrs.I also believe
they will make systems geared toward every demographic and monetary
income. That means a system for everyone at different income levels so there could be different consoles for different prices so nobody misses out.
(JUST AN OPINION)

Don't worry you 360 won't be useless as sonn as the announce another Xbox. It will be in probally 5 years before they announce another one. I'm just going to play the 360 until I see another console on the shelves at walmart.

Probably about the same gap between Xbox and Xbox 360.

My guess would be maybe 5-6 years, judging by previous more recent consoles anyway.

It'd be sweet if they could make a game that had virtual reality so you could actually be in the game and feel what the character feels. Everything would be synthetic, so as soon as you came out of the game you'd be fine.

I'd say 4-5 years before we see another iteration of the Xbox. That's the typical lifespan of a console. I'm willing to bet that Microsoft is already working on the preliminary details of the 360's successor. I'm a bit confused however on Kutaragi's comment that PS3 will have a lifespan of 10 years. Whether than means PS3 will be the exclusive Sony console for 10 years is unknown; in my opinion, that'd be rather foolish. More likely, the PS3 will continue to be supported for 10 years, with a newer version coming out a few years prior to then. Still, 10 years is damn long. 5 years seems a whole lot more appropriate when considering the constant evolution of accompanying technologies, such as high resolution displays and prevalence of higher bandwidth broadband infrastructures. Not to mention graphics...a 7800GTX would hardly be sufficient for the next 10 years.

every cycle is about 4-5 years but this gen might be longer if the graphics hold up for that long

why are we thinking of the next next console, we should focus on this console, but going back to the topic i think about 6 years; although i will like to see more consoles and i dont want to see a playstation 4, they have to come up with something better, same with ms, xbox is a good name for for next consoles they should put a bit more imagination

I'm guessing we'll see the next-next gen consoles at E3 or TGS 2009, and they'll release in 2010-2011. Maybe later, who knows.

But remember, as gaming technology advances, the jumps from gen to gen are going to be less and less noticable (graphically). And, because Pc's will surpass the 360 and PS3 ad Revo graphically within a year or two, we may see next-next gen even sooner.

But for now I want to stay focused on my 360, and, later, my Revolution.

4 years. Or until saturation of the TV market with 1080i HD. After 1080i TV's are above 50% of households I would bet that there will be some higher Resolution pushing next gen. Maybe 2160p (whatever multiple...)? Only then will next Gen. make sense again. I think also that the next gen consoles may have a distributed process set up like sony is envisioning with the "cell". Devices in your house, be it your computer or Home Theater will be able to be linked for some sort of "shared computing". I don't think this will happen until 2010-11 though...I think Sony is jumping the gun on a kind of technology that won't buy them any dividends for 5 years.

I'd say 5-6 years but then it will be old system, even my granny would say: 'What a terrible graphics, my pc is even faster.' Lol, kidding. No i think 5-6 years is about right, Then we will get the xbox (some unknown word here hehe ;))
