Can any one here find the specs for the x360 beta kits, for me? I tried to find them, but I think am looking in the spots. I heard that all of the games showed in Tokyo were designed to run on the alpha kits, and the developers didn’t program the games to use all three CPUs because the alpha kits only had 2.
Is that true???
Because if it’s true that means we can expect even better and more stunning graphics then the PGR3 trailer, I mean think about it, a whole CPU not used yet Wow if it’s true, that would blow my mind.
thanks

well, you can do the math to figure out about what the beta's are running on.
they're 90% power, so that means they have to have the tri-core processor, but not running @ 3.2, try about 2.9 GHz.
plus they have to have the gpu for portability for the final devs before the actual hardware, but not running at full power, probably about 450MHz.
that is basically what we're looking at for the beta kits.

also, those were running on the betas, but only dual threaded on one core of the cpu.
the alpha's didn't have 4xAA ability, and they didn't have 60fps capabilities for pgr3. also, the devs have had about a month to dink around with the beta's and if they want to make a launch date release, they have to have a demo in place off the beta's by now.

Thanks papa, that’s what I wonted to know.
I new it was too good to be true, I just didn’t want to say it
In the end, and about 4- 6 years from now, they will know how to push it past its expected limits. Just not yet, the console hasn’t even come out yet.

well, let's put it this way. they were running all of what you saw off of one core on a powered-down cpu and off of a powered-down gpu. there's so much room for improvement, it's not even funny.
what you saw really is a fraction of what the system is capable of doing.
1 core vs 3
everything powered down.
just ported alpha devs
come on, don't say your idea was too good to be true, because it basically is.

I see
I only skimmed the post and thought u said that it was running at almost full power
Next time I’ll read all of it.
Oh yeah one more thing hell's yes!!!!!!! :D :tee:

Of course we are expecting greater graphics and power than we should have seen so far, as an Alpha Kit is nowhere near as powerful as a Beta, which isnt even as powerful as a full Xbox 360.

what we're seeing isn't just 1/6th the power of the cpu. it's exponential. i might try to calculate how much more powerful the system is at full speed, but i'm kinda lazy right now.

Know that I think about it, how can the trailers at Tokyo be running at 1/6 the power, when at E3 they said that the alpha kits were running at around 30 % power,
the beta kits have that power, but the game demos that were shown at Tokyo were designed on the alpha kits, so that means the developers got the beta kits to late, and didn’t have time to make the games use all the power available, they couldn’t program the games to use the dual threaded CPUs before the beta kits came out, because the alpha kits that the games where first designed on, weren’t duel threaded, and the beta kits came in to late to do any major changes on the games programming to use both threads before the Tokyo showing .
I know all about the G5. I worked with them for most of the school year in my graphics art class, and I know that 1 G5 has dual CPUs running at 2.5 GHz. Which means that 2 G5s = to, 4 GPUs that are all running at 2.5 GHz.
Info on the G5: http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/G5.ars/1
So that means 4 G5 CPUs don't = 1 x360 single threaded x360 CPU, if that’s true then the alpha kits weren’t even running at 25 %, because one single threaded x360 CPU could handle the workload of 4 G5 CPUs, running all at 2.5 GHz, as u say, apparently pretty easily with out lag. and because its only using one thread instead of the available dual threads, then that means the alpha kits at E3 were running under 25 % of full power,
Their real system performance at E3 is a little over 16.5 % of full power. (These are my ruff calculation)

exactly. the developers to only have a month to dual thread software and upgrade it is just not possible, but since it was running on 2 g5's it can run on 1 thread in one core. that's the power of the 360.
the only real problem is that with one thread you still get lag in the bigger sequences, so it's kind of like the alpha but running much, much, smoother.

I hope all of this is true, Because if it’s not we’ll sound like Xbox 360 fanboys,
That makes me cringe!!!!!! when I think of being a fanboy. :dong:

oh, trust me. 1 month isn't enough time to rewrite coding for 6 or even 2 threads, especially when one can handle all of the workload.
we'll start seeing real beta and 360 non-lagging graphics probably mid-august after the final kits come out. i doubt the graphics will get much better, but the gameplay should increase.

wat the heck does the beta kits do for the 360

wat the heck does the beta kits do for the 360
....let's put it this way.
the alpha kits were made so that the developers had something to write code to that would be similar to the code structure of the 360.
the beta kit is all the hardware, dumbed down so it's easier to transfer the code from the alpha to the beta.
it's exponentially better than alphas and it is final hardware. without it, don't expect any games for the 360.
