I came across this TeamXbox thread (http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread.php?t=363101), which originally came from this IGN page (http://insider.ign.com/teasers/637/637491.html) (insiders only :mad: ), claiming that the 360 will cost between $300-$400, but a Sony rep had said the PS3 could go for up to $1000!

a $1000 no thanks as much as i don't like sony, some how i don't think they will even be willing to sell the ps3 at that high a price. not many people would pay that price for what is an over glorified game's console. Me thinks sony has bitten of more than they can chew this time.

IMO that whole "We want people to work harder" statement was just them trying to justify there extortionate prices.

I suppose what they mean is that its not aimed at people with a large family, where possibly more than one console is required, and the kids will want it. Its more aimed at the young working professional, who will be able to afford it and will only need one in the house.

Why am I trying to defend Sony anyway. Madness.

The sorry thing is that Sony has such a loyal fanbase that it will sell well, to all corners of the market I expect. Hopefully it will lose some of its following with the strong competition from the 360 and the (hopefully) revolutionary Revolution.

Harsh comments about the PS3 today. I do like how the PS3 has been able to incorporate so many things into the design; the grill, the kettle, the building, the "the consumer will take it in the butt by working harder to afford our über-awesome quasi-gaming machine" philosophy.

I guess there are a couple of things I look forward to, the day xbox 360 launches and the Sony fanbois taunt us about how much our system sucks, and the PS3 launch day and the pre-looting that happens while the fanbois search for funds to buy their "superior" machine. But, that is about a year away- give or take.
