]Microsoft has kept a tight lip on its shipping numbers for the United States on November 22nd and the subsequent launches in Japan and Europe, let alone sales projections. As launch nears, though, we're starting to have an idea where Microsoft see themselves roughly six months down the line.
The Mercury News says Microsoft's projecting between 4.5 and 5.5 million Xbox 360s sold worldwide between the machine's launch and the end of the fiscal year next June. Though a great sounding number, that accounts for the worldwide numbers of Xbox 360 and is likely a total Microsoft's actually hoping to exceed.
Whether that actually happens, however, is heavily dependent on consumer demand past the frantic launch period, the reception in Japan, how fast they can continue to pump out machines worldwide simultaneously and other unknowable factors - namely, when Sony actually plans on launching PlayStation 3.
Microsoft has also stated it expects its home and entertainment division (encompassing Xbox, Microsoft TV, PC games and home consumer software divisions) to grow more than 50% in the total fiscal year from $3.2 billion to $4.8 billion.
This is just about 3 days old now. However, it's the first I've seen of it.
EDIT
Sorrry, I forgot the word 'million' in the title. I'm sure you all figured it out though.
