I am not really worried since I am 3rd on the list and live in a small-ish area where they will supply the demand but I am worried for people in the big cities who may not get theirs, sucks to be them

dont worry, as it has been confirmed that the 50,000 thing was a major typo, its actually 500,000(i live in the UK)

It's not the biggest but 500,000 is nothing to sneeze at. Considering at how big England is and how big the U.S. is it seems like it isn't too bad.

Bearing in mind that the first post states that it was a Microsoft rep that told the game manager the figure due to a 'missprint' then I would take it with a pinch of salt.

Why has there been no official word so far? I'm sure everyone has a friend that works in a shop and they've heard so many different versions. The upshot is that so far the UK has had 150,000 pre orders and they are not all going to be filled on launch day. Why would the big online stores not be guaranteeing delivery and stating that on orders placed before 18th August (in Games case) be guaranteed a launch day delivery. If we were getting 500,000 then its not an issue. Most others can't even guarantee a delivery before Xmas.

If the UK is getting 500k units then how many will the US get? There are about 60M in the UK and about 280M in the US. So in the UK this is one 360 for every 120 residents. For the same ratio in the US, we would get 2.3M 360's. MS must be cranking these things out like popcorn!

I don't know who or what to believe now.

Thanks for clearing it up. I was starting to worry then, and was thinking I wouldn't get my 360. 500,000 is alot, a very good move on Microsoft's part as demand will be high.

The UK ISN'T getting 500k units, they are getting 75,000 on launch with 25,000 of those for the internet

Then a further 200,000 units which won't be put up for sale to create the illusion of stock shortages

500,000 units is way off, 50,000 was also way off in a sense

also the chances of a Microsoft employee creating a typo as bad as that are very minimal, they would check a figure like that and would easily notice a typo, plus a GAME store manager said so, not quite the best source of info (yes thats where the typo rumours came from)

No offence, but bollocks.

there is no way under the current circumstances that MS would hold anything back to artificially create a stock shortage. They were delayed on manufacturing and with problems with the GPU dies.

They have been overly ambitious with the worldwide launch and personally I think its going to bite them in the arse. Why are they so bloody awkward when it comes to figures of launch kit except the current reproach of ' there will be shortages'. They are bricking it as they have failed to uphold what they said they were going to do. To hold any back would cause ill will in a very keen gaming community and be virtual suicide for company aiming to take over the STB market not generate pre launch hype about demand.

As for the figure being a typo, dont even get me started. We are not talking about some small corner shop company, but one of the worlds biggest corporations. They have f****d up big time but dont have the balls to admit it. Either that or they have the very worst marketing dept after Sega.

As a light hearted addendum:

Heres how to make money MS stylee:

http://www.microsoft.com/msft/aspx/section16.aspx

First SEC filing for 11/10/05. Sell 300,000 of securities at around $27 and buy them back on the same day using stock options at $21. A nice $1.8 million payday. i might have it wrong but then again I'm no expert.

As I said, I apologise for being off topic but how the other half lives eh? takes my mind off the whole pre-order issue - as does searching for "Paul Allen" + "Octopus"....

im sorry but how do you know that Microsoft won't purposely create a shortage, it has been done before with great success, and MS would be a company with enough money and bold enough to do the same scheme.

But we shall soon find out :p

and please watch your language on the forums!!!

Whats the point in deliberately creating a shortage? Unless you mean that they are giving the impression of a shortage but on launch day will actually have enough consoles to satisfy demand.

Its public knowledge that they have had issues with manufacturing which has impacted severely on the projected figures they hoped to have to market. If they are holding back stock - not something I believe they would do, then in the run up to Xmas when people are going to spend money, if the console isn't there then that money will be spent on something else. Money which may not be available after Xmas to spend on an expensive toy. MS have tried to dp something very ambitious with this launch and hats off to them for it. I believe that they have overstretched themselves and are going to be left with egg on their face and leaving a lot of ill feeling in the way that its been handled. Theres a lot of people on both sides of the pond wondering where they stand right now. Its ok for the early adopters and those who had the savvy to pre-order (in most cases months ago) but even a lot those die hard fans are going to be left wanting thanks to the lack of information available on retail stock availability. As fof those who were hoping to be able to walk into a shop and get oe for Xmas - then theres no hope. Some of the latest info for Gamestation - which has the 2nd biggest share of the UK market seems to imply that even they will only get around 4800 units. Game have bundles in store of a console and 10 games etc for £759. Is this because they dont have enough consoles to be able to supply as console only so have to basically say you buy an expensive bundle only, therefore pricing it out of most peoples reach?

Why not just get the public release figures out there?

Also - i apologise for any language which may have offended in my previous post. Thats 10 pints of Guinness for you....

L.M. - just spotted your gamercard tag and I'm in Teesside so I suppose its natural we'd disagree

well i think thats what they are doing, they are holding stock, they are releasing the 1st shipments a month before crimbo so would hold the rest of the stock until like a week or two before crimbo, as everyone would rush to the stores and grab one, mass panic but mass sales for M$

Teeside eh (no wonder). are you a Toon Fan!!!
