Ok so the way im seeing this is,
1. the stores had the systems last week right, but were set on a stric 22nd release, failure to do so would result in no further shippments of xbox 360s
2. which thus means in addition to the 500k units in the UK and the 200k units in japan(which i think were already done with) leaves the 2 factories
3. Its been stated those 2 factories in china are delivering tens of thousands of Units per day.
4. lets think 30k from each factory each day.thats 60k units a day.
5. which in the last week(supposing they do actually go 24/7) thats 360k units in a weeks time.
6. so every week, microsoft can shift 360,000 units across the US this up coming week, and then give US realitors smaller increments as the UK and Japan Systems launch
7. Not to bad if they really delivered one million units to the US already.

Yeah that would be good. I think MS staged the shortage to get more demand though. I say there is at least a 100k in those factories. I want my 360 now! I hope your logic is right Death. It does seem very possible though.

There are 500k for the whole of Europe not the UK. Allocation is more than likely less than 75k for the UK alone. I thought the capacity for the factories was approx 150k per week - combined and not each. That would stand to reason why MS is looking at a possible 5.5 million installed userbase by the end of their 'launch period' i.e. in their eyes, anything up to the first year, they have always stated that their launch window is not just the period up to Xmas.

The shortage is real, it wasn't that long ago that MS were talking about the problems with GPU manufacture - there are more Xboxs being delivered but thats only due to the factories continuous output - not any being held back. There are enough people who pre-ordered being turned away. The fact that a lot of die hard Xbox fans are being disappointed should make the shortage obvious - why would any company intentionally pi$$ off its most ardent fans. I would say that the quality control has suffered as a case in point, there are a hell of a lot of people on a lot of forums reporting faults - I take that as an indication that MS have tried to catch up to the current release level too quicky to take stock of any manucturing defects and to get them on the shelf anyway.

Why don't they give an official report on figures - Allard and Moore both admit to shortages but why should they admit it any further when there are enough blindly believing fans who'll make up whatever stories they want about MS holding stock back and do the hype for them.

they had very ambitious plans, maybe too ambitious, even for MS, but should still be applauded for giving it a go. But I do think its time for a lot of people to wake up and really see whats happening.

Yes i have to agree, i think the whole shortage might be just talking and not real, or microsoft isnt producing fasth, the factories are working 24/7, but they are not made as fast as we think, they go through a series of test and everything before they are shipped. The demand is high, and the supply needs to caught up with the demand

Dont get me wrong, its not that I'm having a go at MS or the 360 but there is simply not enough info out there. If they had got their production up to scratch then they would have had a good idea of how many people were preordering months ago. They must have polled the retailers ages ago to see what the interest was and it has been massive. I honestly believe they have had a number of issues. They have even gone to the point of hiring cargo 747s to get them into countires in time - this must have cost them an absolute bundle, its not a normal shipping method and they must have taken a massive freight handling hit on top of the losses they make per unit.

This, to me, shows that they have really tried to pull the stops out to get as many into the shops for launch day as possible and good on them for that. But then again they would only have done that if they couldn't have got them here in time due to abnormal production timescales caused by whatever reason. How many on this forum alone have been told that there preorders wont be filled or every shop has had miniscule stock deliveries.

They are continuously working to meet as much of the demand as possible. It must be galling for them know that a lot of very genuine gamers are going to lose out while others that arent interested in the console are flogging them on ebay for a massive profit. I'm sure that they would have fulfilled every order as much as possible to stop this happening and artificially engineering a shortage is not the way to do it. They would simply have no reason to and anyone who says its to generate interest in the console is kidding themselves - there was already massive interest and more than enough people willing to buy them without MS having to go to the extreme of hiring cargo airliners and losing even more money.

that seems kinda pointless, its not like they will be receiving significant ammounts at that rate, still not buying it though
