Good or bad you decide, but like all the other platforms, FFXI on the XBox360 will not have voice support - this is so they can track abusive players through keystrokes (abuse would be impossible to track through voice)

Yeah I sure know I would prefer voice v typing as well. If only they could think of another way to track abusive players - then again is that the real reason they aren't including it.....?

On the other hand, I guess you have to think - what if there is like 200 people in an area all talking at once - what an earful! + the server probably couldnt handle it.

PSO did but they added a 5-10 seconds voice delay, but i found i got used to it. I think this is a big put off for me, plus u would be putting up with all the sony fanboys (because u no they will be the only ones online with there PS2)

I didn't really enjoy final fantasy XI so I hope we get Final Fantasy VII as well it is the best game in the series in my opinion. Be sure to check out the new movie this fall Final fantasy Vll Advent Children: http://www.square-enix.co.jp/dvd/ff7ac/

Isn't there a keyboard add-on to the 360?

There was an image banded around on the internet a week or so ago, check out the thumb nail below it's the control pad drawing next to the headset. It looks small.

Couldn't you technically hook up a keyboard as the 360 has usb ports?

You can. But, the keyboard will only be used for text messages etc. Not for gameplay. At some conference this was confirmed a few hours or days ago.

MS "might" reconsider it if there is a lot of requests for keyboard/mouse support.

I think MS doesent like the keyboard/mouse becouse it move's the Xbox360 from a console to a PC ( what it in reality is ).

I doubt it. They are probably just lazy. At the LEAST they could give us the option to create a chatroom, like say, start a group, get 6 people, you're all voice chatting with eachother. it helps a LOT when it comes to team play in an MMO. Trust me. I played one for 3 and a half years. Voice would be a huge winner. They have to be just lazy.

But the 360 is versatile, right? I was thinking, can we make our own chat rooms outside of it using the guide program? or was that limited to 1 on 1?

Oh...

I don't know whether i'm going to buy this. I'm a huge FF fan. But i've seen what it can do to people. A friend of mine always talked about it, and nothing else. He sits up all night to play it, and sleeps through the day. It scares me.

You should read about what EverQuest did to people. I used to play that game. I knew a guy who shot himself in real life because of it.

I heard of others commiting suicide as well. Some people I know lost their girlfriends/boyfriends, job's/careers, marriage. People used to go into the game, camp specific places for an item or money and sell them off Ebay for a living.

So if you think pulling all-nighters is bad, trust me it's not.

Everyone knows of the Evercrack games. But it happens with most. World of Warcraft has already caused more than a few deaths.

You have to be quite the maniac to kill yourself from playing, but this guy does it most nights. I mean, he got angry because he was too tired when he came home from school to play it for four hours. He only got three. That's disturbing.

Yeah dude. But that's how they design the games. SOE likes to brag a LOT about how "successful" EverQuest is and how so many people buy their expansions.

Ask the gamer and they'll tell you the inside part of the story. I'll tell you how it really is.

Every time they release a new expansion, they give you just a little bit more of the high-end game. It might be a few levels, a few extra abilities you can earn, a new feature, a few new zones, it could be all of the above. Now expansions are of course optional, correct? You can choose to buy this expansion, stay up to date with the rest of your friends and guild. Keep up with the competition of rival guilds.

Oh, and I thought I'd add. They only had one expansion that gave next to nothing to the high-end gamer. It was reported by them as their worst selling expansion to date.

Or, you can choose not to buy it, fall behind, become outdated (that includes gear, new abilities, new levels, game features, hunting zones - everything), not being able to "hunt" with your friends because they bought the expansion and are hunting in better zones etc. But you still have that choice... Right? Even though the end result is either pay $$ and be forced into more work just to keep up, OR get left behind. Get owned by people with better stuff. Get left out on raids. Get removed from your guild? Get left out on new events. You might as well just retire from the game.

It's a lose/lose scenario.

So there goes the question... Why don't people just quit?

It's simple. They're addicted. Here's why:

EQ is built so you have to put a lot of time and effort into achieving every little bit for your character. It takes time to level. It takes time to find a group or find a spot you can solo. It takes time to trade, to buy and sell items. People put hours every day into this. It's easy to become hooked for a lot of people.

To commit so much into this and then opt to "quit" and lose ALL of your progress? Everything you spent working on for days and nights on end, everything you put into it for months, even years, all down the drain? Nope! Not going to happen!

But nobody who's hooked wants to get left behind. So people are going to buy the new expansion whether they want to or not. SOE is calling this a big success story.

And just so this doesn't stray off the topic. Everyone, I don't know what Final Fantasy XI is like, but please. For your own sake. Know what the game is about before you jump into any MMORPG's. Know the possibility that you could end up commiting a big chunk of your time, building up your progress. Know this turns into a second job, for many people.

I'm not trying to demote MMORPG's or scare anyone off... FFXI looks like a neat game!... This is just a friendly warning to check these things out before you get into it. Nothing is wrong with a game that lets you play with thousands of people on a server. Just be careful it doesn't turn into a "job" or a "second life" to you. The odds could vary, depending how they've designed the game. This advice comes from someone who knows what they're talking about. I've seen a lot of people ruin their lives over this game.

If anyone who reads this ends up getting FFXI then I hope you have a good time! MMORPG's are a unique experience and I wish for the best. Just be careful! :)
