Don't feel dumb about asking that question man. I have the same problem you do on mine. The ability to rip music isn't showing up on some systems for some reason. After talking to 1-800 4MY-XBOX, the support team told me that they are working to release a patch next week to fix this problem and several others.

Talked to support this morning. Apparently you can only rip actual retail cd's to your system and not blank cd's with songs on them. Pretty lame if you ask me.

Also if you have an MP3 player and can't get it to connect to 360, apply a firmware upgrade on your MP3 player. Then try and plug it into your 360 and it should connect. This is a great feature because streaming music will be so much better then filling up the damn HD with songs

First gen xbox's where like that (only originals would play) but the new ones let you play cd-rs. Maybe they will do the same thing with the 360

other alternatives are to get an external USB HD and it will just plug right in. The space is cheaper then filling up the 360's 20gig when you need that space for games and such. Or you can stream your music from your computer over the network.

yeah they are prob just saying that to discourage you from using burnt cd's, most of the music on my 360 is from burnt cd's

i like how you can listen to it while doing other thing like i was playing pgr 3 and i was chatting with it in the background while loading a game not much of an awsome feature but one that made me feel like i was on a truly powerfull console

The drive is compatible with copied CD's and DVDs, the limitations come when you just stick MPthrees onto the CD, you need to record them as CDAs first otherwise they wont rip... but then this reduces the amount of songs on a CD.

Just stream the music from your PC using windows media connect. Why is everyone trying to put their music on to their xbox, it is taking up space! :bandit:

The way my Pc is et up it is not possible for me to stream to the 360(long story), besides i can't be arsed streaming on a daily basis. I'd rather just take the time to copy to the HD, hence my enquiry.
