In just two days, Xbox 360 will arrive in Japan. Hoping to calm fears about problematic hardware, Microsoft Japan issued a press release today letting Japanese consumers know that they are aware of a portion of our Xbox 360s have been acting up and Microsoft's handling repairs and exchanges.
"We are working hard on our quality control to ensure that there are no problems with the hardware", says MS Japan. "Though unfortunately, problems have been reported with a number of units released in the west. The details of the problems aren't currently clear, but the number of problematic instances is limited to a few."
MS Japan notes that they are following QA regulations and conducting repairs and exchanges on these units in the west. They also go on to say the current allegations about the AC Adapter and CPU overheating are false.
In a country where people were avoiding the early Xbox units due to fear of disc-scratching, will these statements put everyone at ease?
HA HA how can in one article they say there aware of the issues and willing to take care of them asap but in this one they retrack there statment to make the jap market more comfortable . Give me a break . I say Forget the Jap's for now .And get us americans and Europeans our systems that we preordered and are waiting for . Supply the demand in one market b4 you screw up and do it in other markets . Come on . They made the 360 this huge thing i mean **** look at what they did for the launch * Zero Hour * and they can even get enough systems in homes for people to enjoy or expericance them . By the time so preorders are filled people will be playing on the PS3 . Microsoft You suck at this whole New Generation System Launch . Next time put some of that money you have to good use and higher someone with brains . Bill Gates YOU SUCK! No offence Im not prejudice or anything

It's good news in the long run for us in The USA and Europe if the 360 is released worldwide. Even if a few people in Japan don't want to get a 360 there are sure to be some people that own all the major systems and when they enjoy the 360 it will spread by word of mouth and slowly but surely carve out a following of customers in Japan regardless of Sony pretty much owning the market there. And with this wider customer base the game developers will feel more confident signing with M$ to make quality games which we as the gamers will enjoy and benefit from.
Regarding Overheating, I personally had a recall notice come in the mail on my Original X-Box V1.1 regarding the power cable shorting out when it overheats.... SO it seems pretty safe to assume that with this being the 1st production run on the 360 that if some people are reporting the unit as overheating then it IS happening. But I suppose denial is all they know in the Corporate world....

people here are bashing ms for what they did, but would you do it differently? other than promising more systems than you could make there is nothing i would have done differently. they had to beat the ps3 to the punch so they had to release before spring(which is turning into 2007 wtf) and if they were doing that it would be suicide to release in late decenber, so they had to release before they had enough and make what they could. i say now just stock pile the systems and release them all at once. and make sure repairs are FAST

arn't the japanese huge sony fans, they should just stick with it. Not sure if i'll be getting a PS3, not a big sony fan and the price for launch date is rediculous.

I would agree, at least in my case, that the over heating is BS. I got my 360 on Sunday morning after camping out at BestBuy all night. I didn't get a chance to play it until Monday, But once I did I played it for 12 hours strait. The PSU or the console was warm to touch, but not hot. I never had one lock or freeze issue during that time. I rotated my game play from four different games - COD2, PDZ, PGR3, and Kameo!

Well, I also thought that it might be rumors and hearsay, that was until yesterday. As I was playing Condemned, a couple hours into it, my 360 shut itself off and flashed three horrible lights of red. Nothing I could do would get it to power back on, so I called the warranty hotline number and told them the error code of the three red lights. I need to send it in for repair WITH the power supply, the warranty line admitted that they are well aware of a "glitch" with the system and will make the necessary fix to it and send it back to me. Sounds like they rushed something in order to get it to market.
Anyway, I had mine since the launch date and hadn't had any problems until yesterday. Now I'm out a 360 for a week (or so they claim) during a time when I would have normally gamed the most. Slightly annoying.
I'd definitely recommend the extended warranty if you haven't already planned on it.

Did they tell you what the code meant? Was it due to overheating or another glitch?
I agree with you on the extended warranty - bought it at best buy when I bought the console. $50 for two years - not bad to guarantee worry free game play!
I got mine Thursday. It ran the first 48 hours straight with no problems.

Overheating isn't a defect its consumer ignorance. Microsoft gave you the power brick to make it easier to control the heat so what do you do? You set it infront of the heater, or ontop of a hot carpet or even inside a tiny cabinet. Hell for all I care if yours overheats you deserve it.

can i get a power brick extension cord somewhere? cuz the only place a have to put my 360 is in a small cabinet. and if i put it in back it will be about a foot from the heater, but the heater doesn't get too hot. we have hte hot water in the pipes kind, but i would like to put it on top of the entertainment center. unless i can move this one thing and put it in. i'm gonna take a picture and start a thread about it thanks for bringing this up fordgtguy i woulda got home and been all OH SNAP!

that a tough one but I think they may sell one dude. look around onine but if you can't find it I reccomend you fiddle around with the position of your 360 and you powerbrick for the best performance/looks ratio.:captain:
