I personally think that the Xbox 360 could use alot more features if M$ really wants to make it the center of a living room. For one they should add a web browser because alot people would probably like to browse the web while they are waiting for updates to download or just chatting. They should also make the 360 capable of burning dvds/cds because that would be really nice. I know it sounds like I'm saying they should make the xbox 360 like a pc, but the box does have alot of potential. A triple core proccessor should be used for something else other than just gaming, and if M$ would incorporate the features I've listed they might fade that line between computers and consoles a whole lot more!

I think you have some nice ideas guys but the cost of adding features would make the system unaffordable to most. Case in point it is a matter of pride for people to point out that they paid off a 400 dollar item in thier sig. If that system cost 1000 or 2000 how many people could really afford it? Compound that with the fact that you have devices in your home that already do what you are asking and the cost becomes even more unreasonable. Lets not even begin to talk about how large a machine like that would be.

mrpunchy - I do not understand your point on cost.
The system price wouldn't increase; the hardware is already there for the features have been posted. The part that is missing is infrastructure behind the services. If you ever played with a modded Xbox 1.0 (Not that I have one  ) you would understand that it's really just software not hardware that is needed. I have a DivX, vidX player, mp3 player, etc... that is hooked up to my entertainment center. It’s really just getting someone off their ass to program it.

ps. just two people left until I get my Xbox 360
If you think M$ would give upgrades away for free then you don't know M$ very well and tell me what software turns a normal cd/dvd player into a re-writer.

I didn't say anything about it being free. More than likely you would still have to pay for the services, but the cost of the unit wouldn't increase. Gee are you reading the same thread as me???? I'm not seeing anything about a CD/DVD re-write. If you are talking about the movie part, it would be something more like HBO on demand; where the company stores all the movies and just streams them to your box. But if you wanted a re-write drive the connection is already there. But then again you would need "software" to burn it to your external CD/DVD drive.

ghorman, what Gee is saying is that in the original post they stated a DVD writer was one of the extra features wanted. This is not something software would change, would need a more expensive drive increasing cost of the system.

Yeah, I see the part about the burning CD/DVD now but there are two ways to look at that. And I do understand that software will not turn a normal CD/DVD into a writer.
"They should also make the 360 capable of burning dvds/cds because that would be really nice."
But if the dashboard had an option to burn a DVD/CD to an external writer (USB drive) that would be cool. Then you can hook up any speed/type of burner you wanted.

the only thing i carnt stand is waiting for a download, and you are not able to browse your console or play games while its downloading beacuse it stops the download.

why exactlly do you need a web browser on ur xbox?? while you're waiting for a download go sit at your pc, or just get off your ass and go do somthing else while you wait, no one says you have to sit there and wait.
do you want it to cook and clean for you as well?

well as i said b4 about the rentals, u dont need anymore hardware upgrades, ITS ALL IN THE MARKETPLACE,would play like maybe the demos, but full versions or, it would play like the arcade except it will have an expiration date so it would just erase itself, developers could make a contract with MS and since they arent giving us disc persay it will be cheaper, and it could be paid with ms points or creditcard...now that i think about it, it would be a GREAT feature, exquezee me now, im gonna go pitch the idea to M$ for a couple of k's ;)
By the way, i also belive that for the writer you will need to mod, i doubt ms will do it for us, and truthfully, its not really that much of a need.

Let me see if I understand you right, you pay for a game and then download a full 360 game onto your HD,people that have downloaded the 360 demos will know that they can take a while to download,so I would hate to guess how long a full version of the game would take.

I think the 360 has Tivo like capabilities, maybe something to counter the ps3 launch?
After all, how much more expensive is a DVDrw than a DVD Drive?

You must live pretty far from your nearest blockbusters then if it will be quicker to download a full game.

The one thing I would like, that could easily be free, is to be able to do other things when the 360 is downloading something.

the features i listed wouldn't cost that much to have updated. User's probably wouldnt have to update if they didnt want to. I just think its stupid that the 360 has so much potential and is only using so little of it. It should easily be able to dl an update and play another game. If ur everyday computer can do that, and the next-gen console can't then theres something wrong there.
