View Full Version : Anyone got a screw loose...literally

Got a question, I took my 360 from a vertical stance to a horizontal one. I noticed a rattle sound that sounded like a small loose screw floating around. Anyone else experience this? Not sure if this is a normal sound it makes, or if it indeed is a screw. Nevertheless it plays fine. Should I risk taking it apart to see what the noise was, or could it had been the dvd drive just positioning itself? All responses appreciated.

It's the tilt sensor. It changes the direction of the ring of light when you move it from Horizontal to Vertical.

Just to be on the safe side, i'd suggest getting the strongest power drill you can find a drilling a few dozen holes through the console so you can peek inside to be sure there is no loose screw inside. You wouldn't want a loose screw damaging the fragile circuits in there.

That's a great idea elder, i think they call em "Speed Holes". It would also give it more ventalation! First lamma fixes the cd gouging, now we've fixed the overheating problem!

Well, I think I had a similar problem. When I shook my system a little, I would hear a small lose screw like material in the system move. Anyway, turns out, there is nothing wrong with it, as I called microsoft to confirm. Then again, my console was still defective in the end, so they could have been wrong.
FYI-It took 200+ hours before my system died (RIP-Xbox360 November 22nd to december 11th)

yea its in them all, i have had 2 systems so far, and itr was in them both. We should really drill holes in the power supply for the ventilation. lol

My original X-box is a version 1.1 and last year I had a recall notice come in the mail for the power cable saying that some units had overheated and caught fire and so all I had to do was call in and confirm my serial # and they send me a new powercable with a built in surge protector. More than likely Microsoft is just trying to maximize sales by just getting the units out there sold. Then in a few months after the Christmas sales rush is over they will send out some new power supplies with the overheating problem fixed. I know that having circuits overheat repeatedly fries them FAST the tiny connections on the circuits expand then contract causing fractures. I'm just shocked that Microsft having months and months and even years of testing the X360 just went ahead with the design knowing of the overheating issues. You can't tell me that a company investing millions in the design process and 10s of millions in the production didn't have some systems get plugged in and allowed to run nonstop to test them.... something like this could cause so many X-boxers to lose faith. i'm still crossing my fingers that it will all be fixed in time for Oblivion in march.

Yes Microsoft did ask for you to call and provide you serial # of the xbox to see if your power cord was defective. I did and mine was ok, but then Microsoft sent one out anyway. I did read an article that stated a Xbox caused a fire due to a faulty power cord.....wonder if that had anything to do with it......

Yeah, I had that problem with my first XBOX. I smelt something burning and my XBOX would just shut off if you tapped it the wrong way, literally. I found that the metal had like scorched or something. It sucked. Got a new one now. YAY. Still no 360 tho...

Yea its a shame how bad the 360's rep has become . You would think M$ would do something asap to fix all these known glitches
i know its on a % of the systems but almost everyone on here has had some type of issues on there system freezing up ,scratched disc's etc.

My xbox and my 360 are both fine, I don't know about the rest of you but I think the majority of the problems is the way kids play with their 360. Im not talking about any of you here so dont get too offensive. First off tiliting a 360 while its on with a game in it? Dont have to be too bright to know not to move anything while its in motion unless your positive nothing will happen to it..

I know some portion of the problems is most likely user error for example jamming the X-Box or X360 into a cramped space in your entertainment center where it's just recycling the hot air and has no real ventilation. but this many complaints is just the growing pains of the new system. I remember back when the X-Box first launched. it had it's own technical complaints for the first 6 months then they all died down. :joyman:
