Peter Moore recently conducted an interview with Gameinformer at CES. A lot of interesting topics were covered from manufacturing, to the external HD-DVD drive, and even the Halo 3 release date...
Key points to come out of the interview:
- The recently announced third Xbox 360 manufacturing plant is expected to reach full output capacity around the end of summer/beginning of fall (US time). So this means it should be ready around the time the PS3 is released.
- Moore believes that Sony and Nintendo might also struggle with "getting [their] silicon right", much in the way that Microsoft has. So that much remains to be seen - will there be a PS3 shortage?
- Japanese sale numbers that have been coming through via Famitsu and others should not be treated as gospel - Microsoft haven't even got the real numbers themselves yet. Other than that, Moore is satisfied with the Japanese Xbox 360 launch.
- Moore shrugged off the suggestion that Halo 3 might be released at the same time as the PS3, instead saying: "[It] will be brought to bear when we feel it’s appropriate."
- The goal is to ship 4.5 to 5.5 million Xbox 360 units by 30 June 2006.
- They are exploring the possibilities of how the external HD-DVD will actually connect to the Xbox 360. USB is mentioned specifically.
