I was browsing sites that were not blocked by my work computer and stumbled across this article about the XBox 360 vs PS3...Not sure if anyone has seen this yet...if not here it is!!

Josh Robinson, an artist at Sony Online Entertainment, posted a review of what he has seen so far of the PS3. Being a developer from the inside he has the chance to talk with a lot of the people on technical side of the PS3. He has also talked with some people on the Techinical side of the Xbox 360. His conclusion-the Xbox 360 is better.

"I’ve spent some time the past year developing for the PS3. Actually, it was a cinematic demo to be shown at e3 in 2005 at a closed door viewing. I was one of the few artists selected to work on it for the demo. My job was primarily asset creation. I was creating assets to populate the path where our camera would be flying during the demo. The company I work for is also working on a launch title that I am quite familiar with. In short, I’ve spent some time around the PS3 and or the teams developing for it.
Now I’ve spoken with people who are on the technical side of the PS3. I’ve also talked with people on the technical side of the XBOX 360. The consistent comment I am hearing from people on my end is, “The XBOX 360 is better”. They are saying that it is capable of just doing more."

Talking to a PS3 rep myself and what I have seen from Sony, I agree. It will be a great machine, but not quite as good as the 360.

Honestly....it isn't a "win or lose" if you think about it. As long as they don't go under and stop producing games for the system it will never "lose" Who cares if PS sold more.....XBox was and still will be better!

They are both great consoles that, hopefully, will deliver some great games. The 360 has given all of us an appetizer, but now it's time to eat the meal!

I really want to see some games that show off what it truly is capable of! If it takes the PS3, and vice versa, to push the development teams to the limit - than so be it!

I agree with bentout. As long as the compeition is there and the games being developed become better than who cares. Microsoft needs the push to keep the games coming. Look at HALO3.....now that should be AWESOME!

like i said in my earlier post....honestly who cares who sells more consoles?(except the people directly profiting from it) the competition WILL deftinatly push the envelope (except for the games that come out on both consoles because then it actually IS which console is truly better :D ) Im afraid to say this, but when PS3 comes out the games are going to be just like the 360...rushed, look awesome, and fun to play... but not even CLOSE to where they will be in a good 5-8 months. By the time the PS3 comes out the 360 will have the head start with games and development too, so the 360's games will be significantly better while the PS3's games start from the drawing board.

not really, most people in America like the Sony because it seemed inexpensive but now its the expensive over built and ugly console.

Who cares who sells more consoles? I do! Because i like cool exclusive games. Why do you think Rockstar ONLY released the GTA series on the PS2 first months before PC or xbox, because PS2 sold more consoles meaning they will sell more games. Exclusive rights to games is a big deal in the console wars and i will bet the more game developers are going to give exclusive rights to the leading console seller. I will probably end up getting both systems to avoid being out of luck when a game does this, but being the most popular system is very important. :call:

But if you recall GTA was released on Xbox....and it was better! Now developers know that and to sell more they will do it multiplatform. Most developers that are Xbox oriented arent going to release on PS...but the PS oriented developers are open to releasing on the 360...when have you seen a game go from Xbox to playstaion? I cant think of any....if you do please say so. I am also going to get the PS3, so that is why i never though of it that way anyways.

You are right in a way, but the only exclusive xbox game to be on the level of the GTA series is Halo and that is owned by microsoft, so no way are they going to release to a competitor, but the did release it on the PC. So if you know of a popular xbox only game on the same level (or even close) to the GTA series let me know.

Xbox released GTA vice city and it looked better then the PS2 ver no doubt. But when the next game came out in the series (San Andreas) it was still PS2 exclusive. They do that because Sony pays them for the exclusive and they will agree when they have more units selling then anyone else. If microsoft still only has about 22% of the market compared to Sony having over 55% no one is going to sign an exclusive over to microsoft when they are losing over half the market. Plus keep in mind that the PS3 will supposedly have 1080p support so they will also have the better gfx this time too.

i reckon the people who dont buy a 360 and buy a ps3 are insane!! These ppl will pay more for a ps3 than they would for a 360, simply beacause Sony overspend and it costs them more to make a less powerful machine!!!

How do you know this? Did they release a price yet? Why are you talking about speculation, you sound dumb when you talk about something being expensive when you dont even know the price. :reddy:

Plus i seem to remember a bunch of people paying over a $1000 for a $400 xbox on ebay. THOSE people are dumb! Atleast you get what you pay for with the PS3.

Hmm, he probably made the same speculation jump as you did on the "better graphics" claim for the PS3, as you know, the PS3 is still vaporware at this point (seen a functioning PS3 yet?). Better processor perhaps, but graphics... I guess we'll have to wait and see. Remember, the Xbox was a better machine than the PS2, and that didn't help much.

Nevertheless, and as I always stress: it's about the games. You can align yourself with one particular console, but do not deny that good games are ONLY on the console you chose.

I agree, that is my point that if a colsole sells more units then the better game manufacuers will want to develop for that platform and port the rest. All i want is the better games, i dont care what system its on.

You also said that he is speculating the price just like i am on the gfx. Thats why i said that PS3 is "supposedly" going to have 1080p (which is much better then the max on the 360, 1080i). So if they come though with that then they have more to play with then M$. You can have a a Pentium 4 3.2 GHZ with a gig of ram and a 7800 GTX, but if you can only play at 640x480 then its going to look worse then the pentium 4 2.6 512 ram with a 6600 on a screen that can do 1024x768. Even though the 360 is supposed to have the better GPU (again supposed because we dont now about the PS3 other then what they tell us) that doesnt mean much when you cant reach the max resolution. Youll have high FPS with low RES.

And majestic_death_dh, yes i have seen the controller and it is ugly, but at CES they posted that it might not be the final design.

Dont worry michael...i got your back on this one...
michaelT1888 might not know the price or have anything to back up his statement, but I have personally talked to a PS3 rep...from what he told me it is going to be, and i quote "The most expensive console on the market" when i asked him how much it was going to be and he said it was going to be in the 500-700 price range (well over the 360 price). And for the people who paid an ungodly ammount of money for a 360 on e-bay....well, obvously they are rich and have a HUGE ammount of disposable income because no average person has that much to throw out, even the most hardcore gamer!

Even if that were so that wont be that bad for what it has. Especially since stand alone Blu-ray players will be that price or even more expensive. Thats why i said you get what you pay for. You take the 360 with the external HD DVD drive, low estimate of around $300, and you have around the same price but in 2 different drives. Plus M$ wont develop games for the external drive so we are stuck with games on 9 gig media rather then 25 or 50 gig.

Quantum, we can come to this conclusion: we just do not know yet. We are very much aware of the 360 and what it can or could do, but the PS3 (and Rev.), all we have is idle speculation at this point. Even the specs on the last 2 consoles could change (doubtful, but a possiblity).

As for 1080p, well, it may be a while before any game developers cater to that niche crowd of 1% HD 1080p TV owners. As we all know, the Cell is a pain to program for, so I doubt there will be many games running at 1080p with a good frame rate for a while.

With regards to price, expect the PS3 to be more expensive. If the analysts are wrong, then it is good news for the gamers. But being pragmatic with all the information we have on the innards of the PS3, it is not unreasonable to fathom it will be more expensive than the 360.

As said before, it really all does come down to games. Who cares if a game looks good but plays like crap? Most developers are going to create for all three systems to maximize profit, so as far as a "winner", it'll come down to exclusive game content. I was never a fan of Gran Turismo (and if I was, I'd be happy w/ PGR), and honestly Grand Theft Auto got a bit old and the controls feel pretty outdated now (and even GTA went to xbox eventually). So what will PS3 have exclusively, that will be worth buying it for? It won't have Halo 3, and everytime they try to get a Halo - killer it fails.......probably because of their online setup......or lack thereof.
Seems to me PS3 is just trying to keep the same strategy going (heck, they launch lineup, last I checked, looked like PS2 or even PS1, all the same games with a bigger number after them), and not fix it, because in their eyes, nothing is broken.
But in my eyes, online is the future of gaming, and xbox is FAR ahead in that area......I went home last night, felt like something new, and downloaded the demo to Quake 4....for FREE. Tell me that's not really freakin cool? When I think of 360, I think of a very exciting future.......PS3? Just rehashed versions of their old games. Sure, warhawk might be great, but it certainly isn't going to topple the Giants at Bungie........
anyway, thats my two pennies.

Agreed with online being the future, not just of gameing but media. Online streaming of videos or even TV. Downloading, instant messaging, video chat, online shopping. Soon everything we can imagine (if it already isnt) will be online. Sony does have their work cut out for them as far as that goes because M$ has a lot more experience being online, they even have their own ISP and IM. But none the less it is still possible for Sony to pull some tricks out of their hat and blow us away. I have never doubted Sony as a company and the moves they make, i have yet to remember seeing a bad choice on their end. The cool thing is that none of us know what they are coming out with so we can all just wait and speculate in the mean time.

Goodness yes. Its all vaporware, speculation is no different from when the 360 was in the air. From what I have seen, Sony is sequel happy as is Nintendo. Joy, lets see mario in 12020i run around jumping on things as my 6 year old son blow out his back using their new Pelvic ThrustMaster controller. Lets watch Solid Snake in a full beard throw his false teeth at OPFOR in MGSFFXVI Smoked Snake. Yehah. :bebored:

i think this whole article is contradictory..

he says that the 360 is better, but previously stated that the ps3 is nowhere to be seen and that devs only have early dev kits. well how can you say the 360 is better if it's competition isnt even available yet?
