can i copy music from cds or do i have to rip it from them

Its the same thing. If you rip a cd, it will still be there.

or if you have a computer with music on it use windows media connect so it doesnt take up space on your hardrive

Yeah if you can i would recommend that. Windows Media Player Connect (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/devices/wmconnect/default.aspx) Once you go there click download on the right and follow instructions from there.

I agree... that is definitely the best way to do it.

you can not copy MP3s from a CD to the HD, it will only rip a music CD into wmv on the console.

If you do have a computer in the house connected to the same network as the 360 i do recommend you using Windows Media Connect and stream your music to the XBOX, this way you dont have to lose quality and CDs by burning and ripping!
