xbox live points? not working ?

Hi , i bought xbox live points from a usa seller who sent the numbers over , they havnt been used and i am also on xbox live silver

they wont work saying the numbers are invalid , would it be anything cause im in the uk ?

just found out point cards are region spcific so watch out
