Hi all, I got my son a 360 as he wanted to connect to live to play against others. The MS wireless network adapter connected to my network without a hitch and all was going well until i was instructed to download an update, on doing this it will only download about 5% before dropping the connection stating an error has occured. I have also hardwired to the router (Belkin F5D7632) and the same occurs. Contacted MS and they said ports on the firewall need to be opened, which i have done but still nothing...... Please help a father in distress..... Thanks in advance

What firewall do you have? I suspect your ports have not been opened, or you are not port forwarding. (or something along those lines)

Sorry it takes so long for me to reply, a thing called work you see.... I have McAfee but i do not know how to configure the ports on this, I have managed to do it on the router without a problem.

grr i hate mcafee and norton (sadly i have both) they waste memory and cpu. I used mcafee last year, and from what i remember you have to forward your ports, then open the right ports. However, if the 360 is connecting thru a router there should be no computer interaction whatsoever. Also, run the 360 networking troubleshooter (or whatever its called) and see what it says the problem is. I dont think it will say anything though because it sounds like your connnecthing to the internet fine.

Cheers for this... Where would i find the 360 network trouble shooter? The 360 connects fine as displayed int he network settings page... It just stalls when i get to the update stage......

Ah yes the troubleshooter is the thing where it shows the different aspects of te connection and it verifies each one at a time... i think your connection is fine, but maybe there is a glitch in the networking in the 360? I think you should try the live help for the 360, they were useful when i needed help.

go there, but dont bother typing your problem in the box they indicate. Leave it blank, and when the live help thing pops up explain your problem. Use internet explorer, firefox does not work with it. (who woulda thought ms's competition doesnt work on their site :D )

the firewall and virus protection on his computer should have no effect on him connecting to live if hes using his router to conenct his xbox. the firewall on the router will have an effect though

mjag, just buy the Xbox 360 Network Adapter ($100) in the stores like my dad did. You will have nothing to worry about
