Hey mods, what do you think of the idea of having a buying/selling video games forum? We could work out the details on how it could run properly. I have a few ideas and if any mods have any ideas as well. I'm all ears.

It won't be auctions though. It gonna be like a classifieds type.

I will bring this up with the Boss man. The idea has been brought up before but it has not been that well received.

I kind of figured that but, maybe if all the mods and I put our heads together, maybe we can have one that could work on here. Only time will tell I guess.

Inherently Wingman it is a lot of work. People and the endlessly bumping of threads in hope that someone will purchase their Halo2 limited edition for $47.99. The other difficulty is when people get ripped off. They then yell at the Mod’s and Admin on the site like it is their fault. Ebay is safe and has millions of people on it. I did post the link to Matt he has the final say.

Yes my main concern would be legal issues, what type of liability the site would be responsiable for and I think Matt would be concearned with that too.

I think if perhaps there could be a few trusted mods who would hold the games till the person gets his money? Inherently however the shipping costs may skyrocket. AS for legal, how about some document that says you guys arent responsible for anything?

Well, I do agree with that but we would have to brainstorm and I know one site that has a forum with a buying/selling part and is very sucessfull in keeping it working. So, yes it will take a lot of work but it can happen. Then again, Matt has the final say with the thumbs up or down. I just hope I can talk to him 1st before he shoots it down. So if your reading this Matt, please give me a chance to give you details before you shoot it down.

Thanks

You can always talk with Matt just shot him a PM. THe only other site that I have seen with a viable buy/sell is Xbox scene and they are also in the market to sell things. Matt is on the site everyday and I have linked this thread to him already he will respond or I will flog him with a wet noodle.

I like the idea, but would have to take a look at some other sites and see how it runs there before looking at putting it up here.

The main thing is people getting ripped off, I certainly wouldnt want that to happen and it could also damage the site.

I would be worried about people scamming other people, it would be good to stick with eBay when selling stuff and using paypal so there is some kind of money back guarantee.

What about if you have be in this forum long enough to be able to sell things.
Kinda like building your credibility. Ebay has that with the Feedback score. You would rather buy from someone with 1000 stars, than 10 stars... right???
Obviously if you are a big part of this forum, you would be less likley to rip someone off. But how would we build our credibility??

Well, I pmed Matt a site forum that has a buying/selling portion that runs very well. He told me that he will check up on it. Trust me folks, this won't fly if the mods feel that it will cause more problems than solve. Also, so what if it takes some busniness away from ebay? It's free e-commerce. Ebay is a mulit million (possibly billion) dollar site. There are many forums that have a buying/selling portion. That hasn't hurt ebay at all. If I tell the Matt all of my ideas, and he view the site I told him about in addition of input from the mods and some small modifications, this can work but it won't be easy. Will it happen? only time will tell.

One thing you may or may not be over looking besides someone getting scammed is an adult selling a minor an Mature or Adult title then all you need is for some parent to flip their tops and some lawyer that wants some attention and then you will see the $hit hit the fan. I am well over the 18 and there have been times when I go to purchase a title at a store the clerks tell me that this title is not meant for kids under 18.

Sorry to play devils advocate but would it truly be worth it? I would say go to a local store and buy\sell your games there. What Matt could do is open up a sub-forum for selling games where people can post a link to something that they are selling on EBay and then have a mod close the thread. This way people on this site will know about it but all negotiations take place somewhere else. Zero liabilty to the forum.

if this does go down and is allowed..what all would we sell...and how would the transactions work.. paypal?

Wingman1977

The mods will decide what will be allowed to sell and what's not.

Paypal would be the best, so there is no money scamming but we still need a way to make sure that the games get to the buyer.

Well, no buying selling/place is perfect. There are people who get ripped off on ebay and look how they have thier system setup. Honestly, if Matt doesn't feel confortable with having it on here, I will respect his desicon.

it can obviously be done, but the question is why? its not worth the trouble, just use ebay.

actually i think it's a good idea, let people sell stuff, maybe more than just games, have a rule no M rated or whatever so jack thompson doesn't get pissy or whatever

Hi guys

We have decided against this - just not something we want to get into.

Thanks for the idea though - keep em coming :)

Matt.
