need help finding my way

ok guys i just started playing oblivion and think i have messed up. When you get freed from jail and follow the emporer who goes thru the door that cannot be picked or open you turn to the right and progress through the sub domain.

skipping ahead i sneaked up on a goblin got a key which i thought was for the door the emporer went but just found out the hard way that i was wrong haha.

i have no tourch as it seemed to burn out ages ago and the only light i have comes from the restoration spell.(really messed up here i think) my question is where do i go haha. i know your meant to meet the emporer again and fend of a second assassination attempt but dont know where to go.

any help would be great guys as im lost, but loving the game

edit: its ok i found here to go as i dont have a torch i completely missed the cave beside the goblin campsite

ps im standing directly facing the imperial subterrance

Hit B and press the RT (I think) until on the bottom you are on your compess. Then you should be able to find your local map with the Left Stick which will show you were you are and where you have been. You should be able to find your way that way. If all else fails, I would say start a new game. You have not done much and probably would be faster then running around lost.
