Has microsoft worked out the heating issues or are they still a problem? I want a 360 but not if it is going to cause me problems.

If its well ventilated it will be ok. Just do go playing your 360 where it cant breathe

Yupp, there's no problem really, just bad placing of the console.

If you lay the 360 sideways and place it on 4 chunky coasters, one for each corner then you create an airflow beneath the 360 to cool it down as well as it not heating up the surface its lying on which in turn heats up the 360. I may be lucky but my 360 has never crashed or locked up once and I've had it since beginning of Jan.

It performs better standing up and you can buy fans for it

I haven't bought my 360 yet, but plan on getting it this week. If you stand it up on it's side, are you taking a chance that it might shake or tip and scratch the disk?

Like I said, I haven't got my 360 yet, just asking for suggestions before I ruin my Oblivion disk.

I had my 360 since launch and i haven't had any problems at all. just dont sit it on top of your 5.1 channel receiver, or in a small cabinet where it cant breathe. these over heating problems are way over blown, ANY!! PIECE OF EQUIPMENT THAT PRODUCES ALOT OF HEAT IF NOT PLACED IN A WELL VENTELATED AREA WILL MALFUNCTION...PERIOD.

Just place the 360 and the adapters in a open, well ventelated area and you should be fine.

Finally somone who understands electronics.....

My responses in this forum have just been limited though as just 2 hours ago my 360 has broken, and crashes every 5 mins into play. No errors, no red lights. But thank goodness for bestbuy's extended warranty i bought.

Thats fairly poor. Theres a 12 month warranty on my PSP and if it broke after 11 months it would start from the day I recieved my new one on next day delivery. I know because mine was faulty.

mhm the warranty on the 360 is really poor.... 90 days is absolutely nothing. If you havnt bought a 360 yet, GET A WARRANTY WITH IT. Bestbuy's warranty policy is actually very good.

over heating isnt really a problem, its the bugs in the software which are slowly being sorted out thorough software updates

I also thought it was 90 days, and was surprised when microsoft said it was still under warranty untill may 6th. I bought it on 11-22. If you are having problems with a 360 call 1-800-4my-xbox and tell them. They sent me a box to pack it in with a pre-paid mailing sticker. They told me 2 days to get the box(took 3) 4 days to fix it and 2 more days to get it back.I'll post more when i get it back.

Did Microsoft extend the warranty on the 360? Everyone I have called said it only comes with a 90 day warranty.

omg its more than 3 months? i knew i shoulda asked them. Turns out my bestbuy doesnt have any premium boxs, so they want to "replace the defective part" and send it back to me. And guess what, itll take 2 months!!! **** that im taking it back from them and sending it to ms.

It comes with a 90 day warranty but it was extended. It's just not in the paperwork.

If you read the setup instructions you'll be ok. Most people having over heating problems are people that stick the 360 in a small cubby hole in their entertainment centers. Give it good air flow, don't put the 360 or the huge power brick on carpet (good advise for any electronic device) then you'll be just fine.

My has frozen up several times. I have a core system with a hard drive and only after I got the hard drive did it start freezing up. I never had problems with saving to the memory card. My girlfriend's 360 (a pro) does the same especially when saving in Oblivion. I think it's do to the fact that the hard drives aren't the best you could get. They run at 5400 rpm and are basically el cheapo 20GB disk that they can mark up and get a decent profit from.

I phoned them and its because all the earlier systems have been acting up and everyone was phoning in only a few days after the warranty would be up.

I purchased my 360 just two weeks ago. I did not opt for the Warranty when I purchased at Best Buy. Once I got home and really started reading about some of the issues with the 360 I decided to get a warranty. Microsoft offers a 2 year warranty inside the box when you purchase. Cost is $59.99 for 2 years. Once you get the warranty you are also able to extend it once the two years is up.

I got a 2 year EBgames warranty when I got my box, I'm pretty sure they're lenient when it comes to replacing your box. But with the way Microsoft CC sounds, I might prefer sending it in, should I ever have a problem.

A couple days ago I locked up and it said there was a disc-read error with Oblivion, all I did was restart and I haven't had a problem since.

This worried the hell outta me but hopefully it was a one-time thing.

Theres a 1 year manufacturers warranty on mine. Maybe different laws in The U.K. as everything I recall owning has had 1 year warrany as standard.

EB Games will replace your system will little fuss but CHECK YOUR PAPERWORK!

EB Games/ Gamestop only offers 1 year replacement warranty on new systems and 6 month replacement on used. Yes I'm absolutely sure about this, I used to work for them.

I went through 3 of them in 3 days before I got a working one. It's weird because the defective ones were made in March and the one that I have now that's working is from the launch date.

Sometimes when I put in a game it trys to read it as a DVD and the game doesn't start, but I just have to restart it to fix it. It happens mainly with PGR3, once or twice with Oblivion. If it starts to act up I'm just going to send it in to MS for repair.

BTW, I got mine from Costco and apparently they give you a lifetime warranty on everything. Exchanging broken 360's with them is very easy.

The media hyped this one as to it overheating. It was not the case at all, if you look at some of the so called "overheating" from the press it was because there 360's were placed inside a cabinet and could not breath. It does state in the 360 owners manual to keep it in a place that air can get to it. Just a blown up media thing as always.

Exactly. Thats all it was. Its rare for them to just go out without reason, I'd probably say extremely rare. Put the thing in an appropriate place and you won't have any problems. Enough said.

So you cant put the 360 on a carpet?? Then I have no clue where I would put it
