Ok, I'm wondering about what DVD drive you have in your 360. Hitachi or Samsung. I've been hearing alot about damaged discs and I would like to see if there's a connection between the damaging and the DVD Driver, or if it's just moving of the 360 that caused it.
Here's the pics where you can see what DVD Drive you have: http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/Xbox_360_DVD_Drive_Comparison.htm .
I'll go first, I have the Hitachi player and none of my games are damaged in any way.

Samsung here since launch and I have had zero problems with the 360 doing anything. My discs still look perfect.
CORRECTION: The only thing my 360 actually has dong wrong is play that dang MLB2k6 game. I bet that stupid game is going to make my 360 sick. Argh!!!
Just wanted to add that mine is vertical. Tell us what orientation you are playing in along with the drive type?

Hitachi, had the 3 rings once, but I think it was because I moved it while it was on, (no disc in it) and /or may have unplugged one of the cables. I took off the hard drive and cables and put them back on, and have not had a problem since then

my console overheats and freezes when horizontal, heat raises, so vertical is better for me... no scratches yet, samsung
I have the Samsung drive in my recently purchased (and likely, recently manufactured) 360. I've had no problems with damaged discs.
Do newer 360s have Samsung drives, what's the deal?

i have a samsung and have no problems. its not that quiet but that might be because i havnt heard hitachi. and i preordered mine but ended up waiting and extra month so i guess its one of the newer ones.

well i just swapped my faulty console which had a samsung dvd-rom drive, for a new 360, and I got an hitachi, and it is noticably quieter than the samsung.

I won the every 10 minuites contest by mt. dew and i have the hitachi in mine. i had pgr3 crack from the middle out. i was playin the heck out the it though. who knows could have been a faultiy disk, heat, or the drive that made it crack. since then i have bought the fan stand and the games are cooler when you take them out.
but other then that no problems.

Well, my XBox 360 came with a sticker on the Disk Tray, so it's the new one apparently, and I haven't had any problems with it. :)
It's Hitatchi. :)
