gamespot.com has a poll on the lower right hand corner of their home page, and there's a pretty interesting result.
the poll is which console you'll get and the choices and results are:
The bare-bones Core System for $299. I'm rich, but not that rich. 4%
The jam-packed edition for $399. And Cristal for my toilet water. 33%
A PlayStation 3. Hail Sony! 29%
apparently the xbox360 campaign is slowly beginning to buy over the casual gamers.
with the ps3 shipping at such a high cost and the 2-console-package, it's about time people see a deal.

Well, I'm not going to preach, but I hate when people put down Nintendo. I truly believe that 90% of the people that put down Nintendo weren't gamers in 1985 when Nintendo shelled out 250 excellent and memorable games a year. Syklone, believe me, Nintendo is a great company that absolutely has lost market share in the past 2 generations, but is still a company that creates absolutely stunning games time and time again.
If anything, hate on Sony. They do not represent the morals a Nintendo or Microsoft Gaming Studios shows. Both of these companies are trying their best, and I believe are trying to screw the consumer far less than Sony is.

Well I mean look at Sony. Sony was HUGELY popular with the PS1, but they didn't know they were going to come out on top. I could have forvigen them for starting out the video gaming business by putting out an inferior product in hopes of earning a few bucks, but they didn't as far as I know. I loved the PS1, I chose it hands down instead of the N64.
However, you figure a company that made billions of dollars on the PS1 would come out with a really impressive PS2 that would be a good measure of the money people shelled out to buy the thing. What did they get for their hard earned dollers? A machine that had an average 22 month life span...gimme a friggin break. The PS2 was the worst piece of hardware since the sometimes defunct Atari back in the late 70's.
Let's not get to the part where Sony straight up bull****s the public for the hype factor...holy **** I could go on for days about this one. Instead, read this.
http://editorials.teamxbox.com/xbox/1136/Sony-and-The-Hype-Machine/p1/
Now you have a company like Nintendo who is 100% commited to getting you a great video gaming system. Sure, they've alienated lots of 3rd party developers, but their in-house guys are the best at what they do...I predict Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will be among the best games ever made, along with the Metroid games.
Same goes for Microsoft Gaming Studios. I can't help but admire the underdog that puts out a superior product, but can't quite beat the champ. The losses Microsoft took to get into this business is astounding, and you don't even hear the buggers complain. I want to see the underdog win because they've shown me some great gaming. Now, get us the ****ing Final Fantasy games (besides the ****ty Final Fantasy 11) and I'll be happy camper! :)

*points to Jocher's posts*
*points to the 80's where Nintendo near-single handedly revived the gaming industry*
*points to today where Nintendo continues to make amazing games like Zelda Twighlight Princess*
*points at your post* Okay, everone's entitled to their opinion, and forgive me if I sound like a fanboy, but your opinion is...well....not a good one.

I love my xbox dont get me wrong but I can't believe someone just said "morals" and "microsoft" in the same sentence. I mean honestly people its microsoft. One of the most immoral companies to ever exist lol
My problem with Nintendo is YES they were great I was the biggest nintendo fanboy in my youth, even ditched the idea of a playstation holding out for N64 when they really just hit me with a big "SCREW YOU" and left me in agony, thats when I ended up getting a playstation actually. But they are crutching along making rehashes of prior games. The only thing that even keeps them going on consoles are new version of their flagship games. Thats all they have otherwise they are nearly abandoned by 3rd party developers. They still make rather unique games on their handhelds but they just aren't keeping up with the demands of todays gamers when it comes to the console. Sure they have some great games. But I'm not buying a console for 3 great games. They just dont have enough of those games. 1 superior game a year just isn't enough.

Cybergig, I respect your opinion 100%, but I was talking about the morals of Microsoft Gaming Studios, not its parent company Microsoft. Microsoft has had their fair share of court battles because of possible immoral decisions made in house, but Microsoft Gaming Studios is not the same thing. MGS is doing all they can to turn a small profit, after losing around $2 billion the last generation...I don't begrudge them a few extra bucks on the accessories they're selling come November.
All I'm saying is don't necessarily lump MGS and MS together, because they are OWNED by the same person, but they are not RUN by the same person.

in all fairness the XBOX only had as many really good games as Nintendo, if not less, however your opinion depends on what kinds of games u play eg. if you like FPS's, your gonna get an XBOX, lets face it, Halo helped drive the XBOX, there's no denying that, and Halo 3 will help make the 360 sell better that the PS3, condidering the game is scheduled to release on the same day as the PS3, and i dont know what you consider demands of todays gamers, considering the quality of their games, Nintendo is a better game developer then Microsoft, in fact, based on their record, im going to predict that Twilight princess will be the best game of the year

Jocher-totally agreed bud. I should have been more specific. I see "Microsoft" and of course generalized it. I do as you mentioned agree that their gaming studios seem to be filled with people who actually do give a flip about more than just $$ so its definitely a good thing for us the gaming public.
Jeet-indeed I definitely agree with much of what you said. To me the SNES was probably one of the greatest system ever. I dont think I've ever owned as many games for a system as I did for that one. I mean literally I must have had 200 + games owned and countless others rented. I haven't come close to that on any other system since. And not really because of cost but much of like what you mention quality. Many games today simply aren't worth owning which is sad.
Let me try to expand more on what I meant to maybe help better get the view across. It is just the way its hit me over the years and not really a general consensus. Its just how Nintendo has I guess been outgrown by me and my age group maybe. Although then again my buddy at EB is so rabid Nintendo its not even funny :) lol
Off topic sorry anyways yes I think your right Twilight Princess will probably be one of teh greatest games of its type to come out. I think what disheartens me is just that so few games like that come out from Nintendo. But more than that it seems they put so much into those that until you get that "stellar game" your kinda left out in the cold you know what I mean? My roommate has a gamecube and he has basically just the blockbusters such as Metroid prime, Zelda, Resident Evil 4 (incredible game btw I played the hell out of it) and things of that sort. But they are just so few and far between. It seems like they just dont get the countless other games you can get on other systems. I mean they of course get all the EA ones. But since you can get those on any system they really aren't much of a swayer into their corner if that makes sense. I've always loved nintendo in a way for those particular games which are always amazing. It just seems overall there systems have been losing appeal to me more and more with each new generation. I dont know if its so much due to my age or what it just seems like the other systems woo me away. Quality is of course the thing to have, but at the same time they need to have a large library of games to let us have some selection ya know? Its the Gameboys bread and butter, theres just SO many games out for it. It doesn't matter if each ones a perfect 10 or not because theres just so many options. When you go to say EB the gamecubes section is so small. Even compared to the gameboys.
Then again Nintendo has always been a bit more geared towards the younger audience minus the exceptions like RE4 and whatnot. So they'll always have that following and can always do semi well. But they definitely killed me with the no hdtv support. I know their reasoning and its true not a large percentage of people have HDTV's. but thats changing everyday. And when they dont at least support it then it makes it hard for those of us with them to support them. My xbox looks simply gorgeous on my new plasma. PS2 looks not so bad since at least some games are in 480p. But gamecubes games just kinda lack a little (some seem to alright however) but knowing that in the next generation they've basically said "forget you HDTV owners" its just another strike against me getting there new system.
Maybe I've just gotten to hardcore A/V in my adulthood lol ^_^
I'll always be oldschool nintendo, I'll never forget the neighbor wars between my best friend and I argueing over how my SNES was better than his Genesis lol
and my god sorry I rambled so much

i remember when i played my nes. there was nothing like it, it sucked me in and i couldn't stop playing. nintendo still churns out decent games but i believe they deserve more 3rd party support.
they seem like the outcasts that no developer wants to deal with. it's really sad what 10 years will do to a company.

if I dont get my 360 soon I'm gonna die I'm in withdrawals of no good games really coming out recently :\

i think nintendo still puts out GREAT games...i mean, c'mon look at Melee and Zelda and Metroid who cares if Zelda and Metroid are newer versions of an older game...they are still awsome...M$ is good.. but they are still pretty new to the video game market...and i just don't really like sony at all...i'm really disapointed in M$ for charging 400$ for 360...also, gamespot.com is sponsered by sony...and revolution doesn't have a lot of info yet.. i don't think that poll is very fair...take a favorite system poll after all the systems have been released on a general video game site and then see who wins

Question: Why does everyone keep saying Gamespot is sponsored by Sony? Anyone have some proof of this, because I've heard many saying the same thing. I know they seem to hate Microsoft over there, but I didn't know it was a cold hard fact that the suckers are Sony-ites. Anyone have some proof?

dunno if thats completely accurate to say. Most game reviews of games that are on multiple platforms you'll see the Xbox version listed as the best in most cases if not all. Minus when the PC is an option (and even then it usually can beat it for sports games) so yeah dunno about that one *shrugs*

I currently have a NES, Xbox, Computer, Genesis, and N64... I use the computer the most to check in on these forums lol. I just love to sit down and play my Xbox and NES... I really don't care for Sony... When they released the PSTwo (Slim PS2) they were defective for over 4 months! Did they ever release a public statement saying oops they overheat and die???? NO!!! While M$ replaced thousands of power cords for free... Because one out of 10,000 had a small chance of melting... Tell me that's not fair. lol. Xbox cares for it's clientelle... Sony could care less... Here's what's posted on their "customer support"...
Being a leader in the industry is not all it's cracked up to be. Second-class competitors snipe at our every move, kids tease us about our husky silhouette, and monsters are always chapping our behind, all of which forces us to hide our sensitive side under a plucky, who-loves-ya-baby facade. And yet, in our quiet, reflective moments, we never stop wondering: Do they like us? No, really, do they like us?

In my opinion the Gamecube has the best games this generation, as it has the most AAA titles and not as many bad ones as the other two, but the Xbox offers the best experience what with Xbox Live, great graphics and multimedia options it is just a great piece of kit to have in the living room/bedroom and the PS2 offers the same kind of thing but with lots more defects and alot more crappy titles but they can't help that as 3rd party developers love Sony although there are some shiny gems.
Bassicaly I don't think anyone can say Sony sucks or Ninty sucks or Microsoft sucks since they are all doing their own thing which is adding something to the gaming community so lets leave it at that. But you can dislike a companies approach to things but don't dislike the way they make "kiddy" games or rip people off its about the games and experienceyou have with them, not the people who run the company so concearntrate on them.
PS isn't it Ign who is run by Sony? But something you have to remeber is that even when companies are run and ownded by Sony and Microsoft etc they still have their own opinions things like the Official Nintendo/Xbox/Playstation magazione are run by their parent companies but they have no say in the content and it will be the same for Ign and Gamespot and if they come off as being Fanboys then email them telling them that they should stop being fanboys in a polite fashion. And remeber its not the website who is a Fanboy it is the writer of the article and if a company has more AAA games than the other its becuase they have alot more good games and no other reason but everybody has their opinions so what they think is a great game may not be your opinion of a great game.
PS the poll is over :-(
