From the looks of it, the paid service doesn't add much more.

You do know there will be a free service right?

I dont see the gold service costing much more than the current live subscription - and u pay once and u get it 4 the year. I think the only really robbery is when u have to pay 4 content downloads (splintercell £3 per Map) Plus as far as im aware the games wont cost much more than what we are paying now.

The XBL Market sounds like a great idea, making content available to those that dont want to play online but dont want to miss out on single player content. Plus demos will be a nice download feature, i mean how many out there see a game but ur not sure, a demo later and u will no if its good or not 4 u :) i give it a thumbs up.

let's put it this way... playstation has free online, right? well it only supports a few games, and it isn't even set up well, and is a pain in the arse to get into.

xbox redefined online gaming. you will have friends lists, gamer cards, achievement points, every game will be online enabled, what else do you want? video chat? covered. MMO? covered. for what? $50 a year? hell i pay more for gas in a month!

i've been part of the xbl community for a while now,and if you don't want to pay, just keep getting 2-month free subscriptions. and with the new service there'll be a special silver package for people just like you who don't want the full online experience.

xbox live's covered. nuttin wrong with that.

So, you're both angry and happy at the same time? Well, what, pray tell, are you comparing XBL to that would make you so angry? I've heard from a few PS2 online players their angst againt the setup they deal with. One stated that he waited a half hour to play one game of Socom II. Now that is just one instance, obviously it isn't always like that. But that has never been the case with my XBL experience.

We do need some more clarification on the Silver and Gold editions of XBL. As I understood, the Silver version gets to play games on certian days or weekends for free. Gold is obviously limitless.

well, that's at the manufacturer's discretion actually. there's a bunch of fps' that my friend chris has that he has to pay for. plus, xbl isn't just about the games. it's about the experience.

also, there's more than fps on xbl. try some rpg's and soon mmorpg's.

pc mmo's you have to fork out like $12 a month on some.

i would rather pay for a better service than get the crap free ps2 online where 90% games are filled with AR cheaters!

PC online I do not do as I can't be botherd to keep on updating my PC every 12 months to play the next big game.

I found out that the silver pack will not be free all weekends just on specific weekends like how HBO has free weekends some times.

xbl is the best online service out there to date. Sony is a joke. pc is fun but all the free sites are usually plagued with hackers and cheaters who ruin the experience, the ones that are governed and monitored do cost money some as high as 15 bucks a month. I'd say 50 a year is a bargin! And it's only getting better. As far as paying for new maps and levels, did you actually think it would be free all the time? developers don't work for free and quite frankly I think paying 5 or 10 bucks for 10 new multiplayer maps is reasonable for all the hard work they put into it. As for patches, updates and stuff for XBL, Microsoft hasn't charged a dime extra, it's all included in the yearly.

well stated there blackmamba!

it is really annoying when you have those people who believe everything should be free. but with no price comes no real attempt to govern.

would you try to fix a car if they didn't pay you? not likely.

Also there is another FREE online server but is totally different then xbl, it supports many games on the older xbox but supposidly the server will be more efficient on the xbox 360.

True, u get that alot with MMO monthly charges. However, i find the charges to be worth it 4 the amount of updates u get and obviously to run the huge servers u need to play them. But then again i dont mined paying 4 new multiplayer maps and download content if what u get is worth it.

i dont think so, the non-paid only allows you to play live on special 'free days'

if XBL is bull**** (which it isnt, its amazin) id say xbox is, as its the focus of xbox for me

Microsoft put online console gaming on the map. The closest you get to a similar service is only on the pc, the ps2 online is pitiful and inadequet and no where near as good as xbox live and as for the gamecube forget it the only thing it has in online is either phantasy star or warp pipe. Give me live any day it is the superior service

Its only $50 a year, get over it. Thats cheap for what they offer.

If all you want is free demos and add-ons then yeah I can see you might be a little dissappointed But that is the bonus end of xbox live. How many games would you still be playing if not for the multiplayer. Single player games are great, just give me oblivian, but without multiplayer I would get bored much quicker with most games.

So the $50 a year probably saves me more money by getting more out of the games I have.

damn where did you find this one, way at the bottom of the attic? but yeah why are you whinning about 50 bucks a year when i blow 50 bucks in a week on food? its just $50, its not a big deal to cough up. And as for old demos what do you want them to spend their time doing finishing their games or pushing back the release dates so they can put out a demo? no thanks
