View Full Version : xbox to have HD-DVD on Nov....25??
anyone have more information about this......On November 25th the Xbox 360 will be upgraded to HD-DVD in the Premium Version only. This can easily be seen by the different drives in the core system and the premium system. The Core System will be released a few weeks earlier than the HD-DVD premium version. HD-DVD version comes out November 25th............

i seriously doubt they would do that. it's horrible pr.
also, microsoft said they'd see how the next-gen format war plays out before they stick their hand in the pot.
until i see a link to a credible website, i'm gonna have to say this is false.

Umm, how could that be possible if we don't have a release date yet? I've heard this too... All that a HD-DVD would do is save you from buying a game that would have 2 or 3 DVD's. I really don't get what the hype is for... I guess it is because most people confuse HD-DVD's for being High Definition. While all it is is High Density...
Really it doesn't matter.

ditto to the last two post. Besides being a HORRIBLE marketing move (they've already pissed people off by having two SKU's) if you go off 21 days later and have a totally different version you would basically be commiting PR suicide.
Also as the last post mentioned HD DVD is only good in that it allows a DVD to hold more info. nothing more. It doesn't make them directly better. It just allows them to put more info on. You can still have "HD Gaming" without HD DVD's. As long as a game is in 720p its HD. Thats all that matters. And personally I dont care for it to have an HD DVD drive. Just be more money to spend on expensive games/DVD's. Just keep it DVD and the price will be reasonable
ya true umm i read it on this site umm the link is http://www.planetxbox360.com/?view=article&article=84&PHPSESSID=4350b73cd211ee2f4d3004527605db94
its the 3rd update.........

still this just can't be true. You can't have a system that has 2 completely different Disc drives. That would mean if a developer DID make a game with HD DVD as the format its on. that all people who dont have the HD DVD xbox360 couldn't even play it. And thats just madness. I dont see how they could even think to do this, its just an all or nothing scenario. Either you go with HD DVD or you dont. They shouldn't even dream of splitting it and having two versions of the system that drastically different. Which is what makes me think it just can't be true. And really it shouldn't be.

with no agreement on the Unified format of the future be it either HD-DVD or Blue-Ray, it could be a wise move on microsoft's part to include a hd-dvd drive in the system, but the way i heard it was that it would be added at a much later date, say second generation 360's getting it i'd say around PS3 launch time with first generation being the current 360 coming out in november with standard 12x speed dvd drives installed. Can't see microsoft adding hd-dvd so quickly after release, also first generation hd-dvd and recorders are only about to come out in the next few months around the time of the 360 or there about or just before.

This cant be true, like all of u said, it would be marketing suicide. We don’t need HD DVDs yet, we can have duel layered DVD two layers have the capacity of 8.5 GB. 8.5 GB, that’s almost two times the space of HALF LIFE 2, I doubt that we are going to need to surpass 8.5 any ways; it’s going to be to much work and time, by the time we get any ware near 8.0 GB, developers are going to be very good at using a system called procedural synthesis. In short, it’s a system that takes a small amount of data, think of it as DND, and then uses that DATA to render the object in the hardware, instead of having to store all the data on the dist, and every time its rendered its never exactly the same, unless u want it to be, Its very random, and it can do more then trees, creating animals, landscapes, maybe even people if it get advanced enough. If u seen fight club, then u have seen procedural synthesis ( PS) at work, in the beginning move, in the fist scene u are traveling through a man’s brain, that was PS, the programmer did some work and told the computer to grow an a natural mathematical pattern and then, Walla a human brain. A system closely resembling PS is already being used to make the landscapes in Kameo: Elements of Power

That part of the OrigenXbox360 was titled from the "Far Out Department" - i.e. it is to be taken with a bar of soap.

Imagine that, maybe they're going to announce that all Xbox 360 consoles will actually come with HD-DVD drives. Who knows. I can see it would be easier than people think. Even if they had to redo any systems they already produced.
It also could be something they're keeping quiet too. How much have they kept silent so far? Maybe they're saving it for last minute hype to make us say "WTF you're kidding? Aww MS you sure tricked us! Sweet deal!" as a nice welcome suprise.
Of course this may be predicting a little too far into an unlikely area, it's just a thought. (Plus it gives me 'I KNEW IT, OWNED!' rights if it actually does happen~)

It looks as if the origenxbox360 site is pointing to Diamond's conclusion... or a merge with Nintendo!
But Diamond I would have to say I agree with you.
