I am looking to buy a new tv. Here are the ones that I like. Are these good tv's or should I look at another brand?
SAM'S CLUB - 50" Samsung DLP HDTV with Stand (http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?catg=535&item=333803&prDeTab=2&pCatg=5885#A)
SAM'S CLUB - 56" Panasonic LCD Projection HDTV w/Stand (http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?catg=535&item=334322&prDeTab=2&pCatg=5885#A)
Any help would be apperciated.

If your going with projection, you cannot beat the sammy DLP. Only go with lcd if you want a flat screen, and even then I would go with plasma...lcd always rescales the picture to fit the screen.

Sorry, but I would not recommend Plasma over LCD. Yes, LCD's are known for slight image tear but there are far too many downsides to plasma to recommend one.
Firstly, Plasmas are more expensive than LCD (in the lower sizes anyway). Also, Plasma generally have lower resolutions than LCD and not technically HD (Usually 1024x768 with asymmetric pixels) so 360 can't display in native res. Another issue with Plasma is the weight; they are significantly heavier than LCD counter-parts so when wall-hanging, it has to be taken into consideration.
Anyway, as for the two you posted: I would take the DLP over the LCD projection. I never liked LCD projection as it tends to have bright and dark areas on screen. For the money the DLP will certainly do the job:
DLP's have great image quality- deep blacks (LCD can't produce true black)
Little rainbow effect now
Cheap for the size
There is no need to go over (I wouldn't even go close to it, 40" does me fine) 50" so I would go with Samsung as it is probably the best TV manufacturer on the planet right now.

I am under the impression that the resolution you quoted was for an LCD. That is why the internal scaler is neccessary on LCD's.

Naa, that's the res I see alot of Plasmas with. Nowadays, LCD have nearly all got a native res of 1366x768 (yes, slight rescaling but if you use the VGA cable that gets rid of it).
I would steer clear of Plasma for gaming, simple.
