We all thought this would happen at some point but this early?. How hi will the price be now? Will the price increase? If it doesn’t, something has to give and what is that something? will the 360 now have HDMI built in? all these question now end up coming out.
but i for one think there is now way for the price not to increase with such a new hardware now inside the system

Digi-Times reports today that Microsoft is selecting manufacturers in Taiwan to provide an internal HD DVD drive that will be used in a forthcoming Xbox 360 edition designed to compete with Sony's PlayStation 3.
Microsoft will offer an external HD-DVD drive for its Xbox 360 at around the end of this year, in an attempt to compete with the Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3), which will have a built-in Blu-ray Disc (BD) drive, the sources indicated. The external HD-DVD drive, however, can only play back movies, the sources noted.
The sources told Digi-Times that Microsoft plans to release this special Xbox 360 model in the first quarter of 2007. Wel'll have more on this new Xbox 360 as it develops.

Grrrr.
No. No. NO! Great, check out the joys of being the early adopters! Can I send in my 360 and get the DVD drive updated? Do I turn around and sell my 360 on eBay and then get the "new and improved" model? Not too keen on this news.

hmmm..
you'll find its only going to be on 360s in America or something i guess.
Doesnt bother me i dont want to pay extra for a HD-DVD, there is no possible way the 360 with HD-DVD installed wont be dearer.
Its stupid M$ say ''360 is better because you have the choice of HDmovies and not, where as the PS3 you have to pay for HDmovies as its included in console'' thats a invalid point now since the 360 will be same.
That's pretty interesting, because up to now they've been like, "Ah we don't plan to do that, blah blah blah." But I can see why they're doing it, it should be pretty cool if the whole HD-DVD thing works out. It just sucks cause I don't wanna have to exchange and ****.

u have a point but maybe this will end up as a third version. the first just games the second with the external HD and the third with it built in. who knows?. I hope they just scrap this whole idea. Now who’s coping who?..

That's ***. Why didn't they just put HD-DVD in from day one? I'm not upgrading unless there are HD-DVD games.

HD-DVD games.
that doesnt make sense...no such thing
He means games that are placed on HD-DVD discs. Like how Sony has Blu-Ray for their gaming format. However that will never happen because only certain 360s would be able to play those games, and also would force those without HD-DVD drives to get a drive to play a particular game. That would just lead to the argument about how Sony is making us adjust to BR (however the PS3 will not have a model that doesnt use BR, so in a way that argument would be different).
Either way, it just leads to the fact that a model of the 360 will now be the same price as the premium PS3. But the 360 still has two discount models so in no way am I saying that MS is making a mistake. I wont get it for the same reason I dont desire a standalone BR player - why upgrade to a new DVD format when current DVDs will plummet in prices. Tis a good day to be a normal DVD fan.

There's more to the rumor than just an internal HD-DVD drive which makes me think this is kind of a "special" or "limited edition" 360. It's also supposed to have a 250GB hard drive, have a smaller cpu die to fix the overheating issues, and have the option of coming in black.
I can understand microsofts thinking in doing this ....... they really want to do all they can to keep the 360 in the loop and they will do whatever it takes to take the spotlight away from the ps3 ......... if they end up shipping all newer 360s with the hd drive built in they should offer some kind of incentive to the early buyers of the console ...... what that would be i dont know.

Yeah they would make the HD-DVD drive available on xbox website and if you type in a serial number from an early xbox it drops the price of the drive. And also a real hott stripper delivers it to your door and then gives you a dance.

250 gig HD? Well in that case it will be more than a premium PS3. Considering the 20 gig HD is $100.

If you watch DVD movies on your Xbox 360 when your console is hooked up to an HD TV, will the movie appear HD?

I doubt it cause if you think about it they wouldn't be any point in putting future movies onto HD-DVD if it did.
