Achievement Points

I haven't bought an XBox 360 yet but am planning on it. I've searched online and on this forum for an answer to this question but haven't had much luck. I heard about being able to purchase downloads online through Microsoft's website such as clothing additions to characters in Saints Row. The person mentioned that it cost something like 100 Microsoft Points to do it. Then I heard about Achievement Points, which I think is what you get for completing certain tasks in different games. Is there a difference between these? What are the benefits of each?

It's not the same thing.

Achievement points = Bragging rights/showing how much of a life you got.

Microsoft points = Currency used on the Marketplace, and can be purchased online with a credit card, or prepaid cards in gaming stores.
