How many are you going to be getting the MS HD-DVD drive add on?

As for myself I am still undecided if I get it. I am taking a wait and see approach.

I'm in the same mind as Recon and I'm undecided about this add-on.

I want to see how they are going to do the whole 1080p/HDMI thing. I do want it but i want to make sure i can use my same cables and still get 720p/1080i

The HD-DVD player + King Kong + Media remote for £129? Sold!

The main reason for it would be my 1080p TV and the confirmed 1080p output of movies via VGA.

QuantuM, if you have the component cables, you can only get 1080i maximum anyway (due to some constraint, not sure exactly) but if you have VGA you can get upto 1080p. Remember, you can set your Xbox 360 to output the resolution you require. I can 99.999999999% guarantee that it'll work ;)

Considering that if you buy it, a 360 is the same price as the PS3 - I'll pass since I plan to get a PS3 (when I dont know). No reason to have both next gen DVD formats in the house when I will only go with one.

If it'll be compatible with my Macbook, then maybe...

If it'll be compatible with my Macbook, then maybe...

it won't be as the drive itself is only for playin movies and nearly all the audio and video decoding and scaling is done by the 360 itself so there is very little chance it will work with anything else.

It may be a long time before I buy it. It's not that I don't want HD-dvd to not succeed, but I just don't need it. Maybe after I finally put in surround sound, then it could be a possible purchse.

I'll wait for the dust to settle between blu-ray and HD-DVD and whoever the winner is (if there is a winner between the two).

The prices which are not confirmed in norway but the guessing price will be almost the same as the xbox 360 its self...That's no good...I really hope the final price will be much cheaper...Then yes I will get myself an HD dvd player for my xbox 360 and HD tv...

I know that HD dvd movies has been out for a while in US but it's not possible
to get HD dvd movies here in norway...No one here in norway are selling HD dvd movies here yet..

Well, in a couple of months I am going to get a Dell 42" HDTV and a JVC 750 watt 7.1 surround sound system. Then, mabye I will get it if I want to watch my movies in HD. But, after the $3,000 in other electronics, I might need the $200 for food, or the cable bill. Meh, screw food. Cable is more important. lol

I'm going to pick it up on launch day. I can't freakin wait to see Serenity in Hi Def......plus just got a new 7.1 surround system, so it's gonna rock. Also, interested to see how it'll play my old DVD's, how well it'll upconvert.

It's honestly pointless to get either the blu-ray or HD-DVD. Who knows which format is going to become the standard. The one positive that comes out from MS not having it built in the 360 is that if blu-ray becomes the standard, MS could release the external blu-ray drive for movies. Unlike Sony that if HD-DVD becomes the standard, consumers are just going to have a a $500-$600 bookend.

Purelithium - it'll work on the Mac, someone's already hooked it up and it plays DVDs and can read the HD DVD structure.

Only problem is you'll need to get HD DVD playback software.

They got it working on Windows XP also, with a Japanese version of WinDVD with HD DVD support.

I got mine yesterday, and the Picture quality is just as good as my Toshiba A1. I am running 1080p via VGA into my 45" LCD. STUNning image quality.

With a $40 coupon from Circuit City, this puppy can be had for $160 - absolutely incredible deal - the price is 2 years ahead of the normal adoption curve.
